Quality of the photo is about right in the scrolling world...folks like to 'borrow patterns without permission' Is the acrylic a 'clear/translucent' material? I'd think it would be cool with the sun hitting it! Scott (what kind of size too) B
-
Very neat! Never thought about bowls with a scroll..... already have the lathe and a ringmaster 723, maybe I can talk her into a few for the craft table? Scott (inspiring) B
-
Very cool! Scott (showing this to her) B

All great advise! It was one of the 'starter packs' containing 12ea in three different sizes. Not sure what size she handed me to 'flatten' but I know now....a way not to do it. She reloaded with a #5 UR FD and went to town. I'll order more tomorrow(personal thing about ordering on a weekend).... And try again. Scott (she was having too much fun) B

I'll know next time to get flat ends, or at least look to be sure the ends are flat. I just whacked a spiral with a hammer on some steel I have. Well, not so good...before the thing became 'flat ended'....it snapped. Scott (errrrr.......order some more) B
-
Amazing! The two tone back is definitely a winner! Scott (just chillin', waitin' on the grillin') B

The "one-that-must-be-obeyed" requested some spiral blades to try-out. No problem! I ordered them and she received them. Problem is, the yelling..... She puts the blades in and tightens the blade into place, starts the cut, and BING....blades are popping out almost immediately on touching wood. She wants to smash them so the set screw will hold better.... I need to know if taking a hammer and beating the 'spiral' on the end flat is going to make the blades 'weak' or anything? Scott (I hate the rain....no milling for me) B
-
"Free wood supplier"? Tell us more.... Love the grain use and the finish looks to be great! Scott (I'm cheap but not free) B
-
Can see those sitting on a dining room table with pride during this upcoming Christmas season! Scott (I don't like shoveling that stuff though) B
-
Nice use of the grain too! Scott (very cool slingin') B

Sorry, should have mentioned the timber type. It is Eastern Red Cedar or even Aromatic Cedar, but I like to call it juniperus virginiana that I harvested from a farmers field(he wanted more grass growing, and I wanted his trees for my sawmill, win-win!) Thanks everyone! She sure did great....and the sign has already started 'working'. Have four going out to Iowa on Monday! Scott (I like sales) B

Completely completed. I've taken the time to photo each duck call and then post them on a FaceBook page I set up. The page is still just an 'infant' in the world od FaceBook pages, so I'll just have to keep promoting it and see where it goes. So proud of my wife and the great job....errrr, I mean fun she had doing this one. BTW, if anyone is looking..... Scott (did you hear about the Whooper making folks poop green) B

In the pen turning world, we use vacuum to get total penetration...and it doesn't matter the tint, stain, or dye used. I have a 5 gallon chamber and can draw almost 28inches of mercury(a lot of vacuum in my location). I get my dyes from Blick Scott (it's nice outside today) B

This is the very reason I started my website. I was upset with the local HD/Lowes/three other 'small' stores in the area. Now I'm a week away from taking delivery on another sawmill that can cut 21ft long and 23in wide, in increments of as little as 1/16th inch thickness! Woohoo!!!!! Scott (need me a sawdust fix) B

Charles Dearing Turkey.......Gobble Gobble.....Finished.....
SDB777 replied to Scrolling Steve's topic in Bragging Rights
Inspiring for sure!!!! ONLY 18 hours? I'm looking at this and seeing a month for me. Then again, I don't get that much time on the saw.... For those of us not in the know(yet), are the plans for this available as 'mailed to you plans' or 'downloads'? And where do you advise to get Charles plans from? Scott (awesome stuff) B -
Roly, If the bottles were 'returnable' I'd keep them! But Arkansas doesn't have that in place.....besides, I've never seen them before 4pm. Even with a ported 95cc screamer milling a log(hehehe). Now the old sawmill, less noise then a riding lawnmower. And technically, they aren't throwing them at me, just into the yard so they don't have to put the bottle in the trash can.....too much effort for crackheads. I like knowing how ice cream is made too! Scott (mystery of the universe is easier) B

How much of a change to a pattern is necessary for someone to 'claim it'? One extra cutout, 50% of the entire pattern, 99.999% of it? I ask because I don't know, not because I want to get beat up.....and it's still too early to go outside and crank up a chainsaw to slab some Butternut{Juglans cinerea}, the wife would kill me. Scott (the crackhead next door would flipout) B
-
Simple physics though....anything added to anything increases thickness, more thickness always equals more resistance, more resistance equals friction. I would think that an acrylic adhesive and polypropylene film(typical components that make up packing tape) have no thermal reducing qualities or added lubricants? Then again, most of the tape manufacturers are not very forthcoming on what they actually use in making packing tape, and WIKI is lacking information that I'm seeking(but they will sure tell you about some French fella the bonding scale was named after). Scott (too early for a chainsaw to be running) B
-
Pretty much as the title asks..... How does a piece of tape cool the blades? I see it mentioned all over the YouTube, but no explaination is given...... I have looked up the most common materials used in making that clear 'packing tape', and I find no thermal reducing qualities listed. So, please enlighten me! Scott (more equal cooler) B

She just looked at y'alls replies..... I don't think her head will fit through the door(I also just got punched in the arm for typing this). The first one is sitting in the light tent and I've taken far too many photo's to showcase the duck calls I make on the lathe. Sure is nice to have a great background to highlight the 'product' with! Scott (needs a band-aid) B
-
Thanks for the welcomes everyone! She's not much of a 'forum person', she'll read over my shoulder if I find something she's interested in.... BTW, not sure if y'all realize it, but "AR" stands for Arkansas...AZ is Arizona Scott (we mail a lot of stuff) B

Wondering what kind of size I'm seeing? Is it only big enough for a coffee cup/coaster? Or is it big enough for a hot 12" frying pan? I'm seeing off-gray coloring.... Scott (wonder what PR would look like) B

The first attempt. So much fun seeing something go from 'notepad' and 'paint.net', printed, glued, and then scrolled. The pieces have been treated with a coat of BLO, allowed to dry before being glued to the 'backer/stand'. The base is not a snug of a fit as I was hoping...but it'll be 'fixed' and have another base with 'stations' for the duck calls I have turned....a display if you will. For whatever reason, I can load the photo, but not move it into the main body of the post. Bummer.... Scott (sorry about the lack of a photo) B

WBR got it right. Best to cut the boards loose from the skids. I use only those good looking top boards also..... Scott (white oak boards for almost free) B

Good afternoon! Purchased the wife a Dewalt 788, and she is burning through some patterns! I think she'll deplete the wood I have sawn over the last few months....the new sawmill isn't scheduled to arrive in Missouri until the 14th of next month(I'm having withdrawals). So far she has been working through the 'customized' signs I needed to have her make for my duck call, woodturning addiction....but there is also some candle holders and such glued, taped, and waiting. After those are finished, I'm hoping to get some boxes and such for her to try.... I do not have GIMP(but it looks as though the tutorials for self made patterns is probably going to utilize that. I have tried using Picsas3, converting to 'sketch' and fiddling with the tones and such. But it just seems to be missing something.....? Anyway, I'll be reading a lot to start, and then maybe I'll get some questions together. Scott (need sawdust) B
