  1. Al, I agree. The edges reduce the richness of the piece. I would like to use solid wood but the thin sections of this design may not like the 1/2 solid oak. Next time I will have to use 1/2 oak. Thank you for the comments Sam
  2. Just BEAUTIFUL, design and cutting. Due to the fact that these designs come out with very thin, I didn't think I can make all this cutting with oak without breaking many of them. I agree with you about the lack of smoothness for the napkin to slide easily. Next time I will use backers like you did. Did you recess the backer inside the frame? Very nice Thank you for the comments Sam
  3. Nice job Frank, Thank you for sharing What size is the clock? Sam
  4. Dick, Nice job. I like the detail work you did. Keep them coming sam
  5. Hello Group, I have been busy designing and cutting these Personalized napkin holders. They are: 1 for my wife and 3 for close friends. I chose not to put backers. Actually I have never used backers This was too much work as it is. I spent about 2 hours just for cutting each pair of sides. I was going slow. I stacked cut each pair of panels with FDUR #1. Remember the problem I was having with blades bending backward. I was working on these Now I am done with cutting, I am not sure how to finish them. I tried a few sample scrap pieces with different stains & just oils. I think I like the finished of red Mahogany. Would you please throw some advice my way? I appreciate the help Thank you
  6. Very Nice Work. They come out great What is the finish? Sam
  7. Bill,That could be my problem. I will make sure my blade is just high enough for the screw to grab. Thank you for the comment
  8. Terry, I have been doing this for the last couple of days. I protruded that set screw a little more toward the center of the clamp. Blade bending has diminished quite a bit but still there is a slight bend in the blade. BUT a lot better than before. Again, thank you everyone for the great advice. I still have not replaced the clamp or set screw with new parts. Sam
  9. Last night I after all the advice and comments, I went back into my garage and checked the clamp and set screw. Removed and checked the rotating tip at the end of the clamp and it was not seized. I put a little oil on it anyway. Adjusted the set screw which was about flush, and made it protrude into the slot about 1/32" or a little more. I put a new #1 FDUR blade and continued to cut. I made sure to BARELY tighten the clamp. Again at the 4th or 5th blade feed, it started to bend back like the picture. I continued to feed and cut until the blade curved so much that it wouldn't go thru the holes. (1/16 dia). I have not replaced the clamp or the set screw with new ones yet. I think I will do that next. THIS IS SOOOO FRUSTRATING. Thank you for listening. Sam
  10. Jeff, The blade is bent ONLY towards the back and not sideways. thanks Sam
  11. Wayne, Thank you for the advice. I do have a new clamp and set screw which I ordered from Seyco a few weeks ago. Thanks again Sam
  12. Got it I will go that right now. Thank you
  13. Thank you Len, I will do just that. I understood your advice on both the clamp little end and the opposite set screw. Thank you Sam
  14. YES DAN. I am laughing. I guess you are the master to figure out how someone feeds their blade I don't think I am over tightening the clamp. Actually just barely tight. I will check the backup set screw and adjust if needed. Do you mean to make the set screw flush with the inside wall of the clamping block? I never had this problem, but again this is the 1st time I use #1 blades for the whole piece. thank you Sam
  15. Please help I only use my scroll saw a few days a week (only evening and weekends ) For the last few times, I have been using #1 FDUR blades. I have this problem with the blades: After about 5-6 blade feeds, the blade starts to bend backwards at the top (at the point where the upper clamp clamps on the blade). My saw is EX-16, Blade is #1 FDUR, Please see the attached picture I suspect that I have excessive back forth blade movement which causes misalignment between the top & bottom blades clamps (does this seem a valid reason?). Here are the pictures: .
  16. Way to go Dick Great Idea to cut your own patterns. As you said to confirm that it is what you intended it to be. Goo luck Sam
  17. Thank you ALL for your input, comments and advice. I appreciates everyone's reply. I will report on which one I get (the Blue or the Yellow ) Sam
  18. No I am still thinking of the Makita too
  19. Thank you Dan, Do you sand the blanks even the BB plywood before you apply patterns? Thank you for your reply. Sam
  20. Wayne, Thank you for the comment. I think I will go with the Dewalt. I appreciate your reply. Sam
  21. Hi all, I have been reading a LOT of reviews on these 2 sanders: Dewalt & Makita. They both have variable speed features which I understand is needed for fret work mainly due to the ability to slow the sanding speed down. I have never had an orbital sander. Would you please give me a little advice so I don't buy something I get stuck with? I figure If I have not needed an orbital sander before, I don't see myself getting any more powerful sanders than these. Reviews for the Dewalt are great except most of the reviewers didn't like the fact that Dewalt's vac connection is proprietary and a regular vac hose did not fit. Reviews for the Makita are even better except almost all reviewers complained about the dust bag blowing off by itself and making a mess. Here are 2 links to the 2 sanders I am considering: Sorry for the long explanation. I appreciate your comments if you have any of these. Thank you all DEWALT at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWE6423K-Variable-Random-Sander/dp/B00ZTPCLZ8 MAKITA at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Makita-BO5031K-5-Inch-Random-Sander/dp/B002FJYE0G/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1485832704&sr=1-1&keywords=BO5031K Sam
