  1. In my opinion, the art is "framed" in that there is a contrasting border around it.
  2. Your staining, finishing and framing of this piece is outstanding!
  3. OK, Copper won hands down, so that's what I will use. I thank everyone who helped me.
  4. Travis, thanks for the clarification. If I understand you right it is OK to post a pattern or a photo of a project that says something positive in either religion or politics. But it is not OK to post something that has a negative connotation about either politics or religion. So, a plaque that says: Allah be praised or Trudeau for Prime Minister is OK. But one that that says: Hindus, see the Light and Convert to Christianity or Vote Trudeau Out is not OK
  5. Good idea and well implemented. I am thinking of copying you.
  6. I never looked at it that way. I think that you are correct, it does.
  7. It's personal. I want the blue that is in the globe and I don't like the combination of red and blue.
  8. So: Showing something that one has created that has a religious point of view is allowed. Showing something that one has created that has a political point of view is not allowed. That is inconsistent but so be it.
  9. Red was one of the colours that I tried and discarded.
  10. I'm not selling them, I'm sending them out as "Christmas Cards". I have no idea what colour each recipient would prefer, so I am going to pick one and only one colour for the base.
  11. I understand the political rules. But, I don't understand the religious rules. Many religious items are posted and accepted. Is it just that we get to look at them but that we are not allowed to comment on them with a different point f view?
  12. Definitely the hooded one.
  13. It is a great idea, but it is Sue's idea and pattern not mine. Right now, I am planning to use Sue's window as a potion of the frame for a photograph that I took.
  14. You are right. The walnut is about 1 inch thick and I had to take great care when cutting it.
  15. This a another Sue Mey pattern that I purchased a few years ago the ignored. I cut it out of three 3mm thick layers of Baltic Birch plywood, stained the top and bottom layers, leaving the middle layer as natural wood.
  16. In the thread: I documented my progress on a Mike Williams designed Moose that I am donating to the Hearst Café. For a description of the Hearst Café, see my last post in that thread. While looking through my scrap woodpile I found a short fat piece of walnut that reminded me of a Sue Mey pattern that I purchased a few years ago and I had done nothing with. The two are a perfect match and I could not resist making a second moose plaque. Here is a photo:
  17. That's not cheating, it's being clever.
  18. Jim, you did a great job on this! The box will, no doubt, be treasured by it's lucky recipient.
  19. I'm neither a fan of Bob Marley nor marihuana, but I do admire the work that you did.
  20. Hi

Hi back to you! Was there a particular reason for your salutation?

No, it was a mistake on my part.

  21. Thanks. In genera, I agree with you about to mentioning mistakes. I did so in this case for two reasons: I am mystified as to why some of my cuts were not at 90 degrees The uneven cuts are harder to see when there is a backer board on the piece. ( Some day I would like to make one of these with no backer board, so I need to solve my cutting problem.)
  22. For those of you who said that they could not detect cutting mistakes, I modified the diagram that showed the back of the piece in front of a window, I modified the photo to add three red arrow pointing to three of those mistakes.
  23. I designed them, but I had them made by a small local manufacturer of awards, plaques, and trophies.
  24. This week, I started and completed 'Bee on a Comb: It is a companion piece for 'Double Dragon" -see As with all of Fiona's patterns I have utilized, I cut this out of thick (almost 1 inch) Spalted Maple. For reasons that I don't understand, not all my cut swere at a perfect 90 degrees. If one looks closely at the back of the cut piece, this is obvious: I had thought about hanging this n a window with no backing but, because the cuts are not perfect, I decided not to do this. The imperfections are hard to detect once a backing is glued to the piece. I tried various veneers as a backing: and chose #6 which, I think, is Elm. I sandwiched the veneer between the cut piece and 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood, glued all the together, the cut out a circle on my scroll-saw: I then sprayed everything with clear semi-gloss "rattle can" stuff, attached a brass plaque and hung it on our bedroom wall beside 'Double Dragon':
