I made the first batch from an old board (used to be part of a shelf) that my hubby had laying around the shop. I smelled very nice - so maybe it was Cedar? But two pieces broke out of blue along the grain. The Osvaldo on the last inch of the outside cutting, smack through the O, all the way through. The Madelyn piece broke off the "l" while sanding and then I accidentally dropped it and the top of the "e" came off. Again right along the grain of the wood. No idea why this happened. The Brandon, I cut diagonally to the grain. It was fine. Ended up using Oak for William.

Thanks Len, the piece was not glued yet at that time, I was just standing them up to get the shot to show it off to family. I appreciate your close look, however. For sure! You can see the piece of wood behind to prop up the back piece.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome! I am slowly getting to where the sawblade is going where I want and not vice versa ;-) my new saw is a DeWalt.

Hi guys, I am brand new to scrolling (started at the end of October) and this forum. I wanted to make a German Schwibbogen (lighted Christmas arch) because they are so expensive to buy. So I got started on a rickety cheap saw my husband had in the shop but after two weekends bought a bigger and better one. Since then I have made a couple of arches and stars, one candle plate (Sheila Landry Design) and am actually most proud of my advent wreath, once I found out about 3D cutting. I used various 3d patterns from books, made my own candle holder design and made the Santa from a modified 3D printer patterns someone had put out there. I took the liberty of putting bragging pictures into the bragging thread. I hope that was ok Cheers M
