This has been sitting on the work table for a couple weeks. Finally got him cut and finished! Still need to find a better marble/orb for him.
I believe the original pattern is from Diana Thompson.
Depends on the project. Blue painters tape then glue for anything that may sit around and not get cut within a week or two (I'm terrible about starting this and not finishing til a month later).
But if I know I'll get it cut in the next day or so sometimes I use that Scroll Saw Tape from Scroller Magazine. I really like it but it can be a little pricey and it will come on stuck if it just sits around too long (couple weeks or more).
No one mentions anything in any of the videos or other tutorials I looked at. But I work with another type of resin in some pieces and it is. So I'm not going to worry too much when cutting it, but I will be wearing my respirator to sand.
Feels pretty solid. I'd said somewhat stronger than 1/2" hardwood (it's 1/2" material too). I smacked this around a couple times yesterday and put some pressure on the branches and it's still one piece
Thanks for the heads up. I do a fair amount with regular epoxy resin and it's a pain too. I usually to sand that stuff to about 1200 then lacquer. Gonna try the same.
Thanks! The FD Polar #7. I ran the saw at full speed, but was careful not to force the feed (which I terrible about) and it never got hot or melty, which was the 1 warning I've seen about cutting this.
I've seen other folks cut Corian (the epoxy counter top material) and I've wanted to try but never got around to buying any. Turns out a friend of mine and her husband run a counter top business! He asked if I wanted some scraps so I of course scooped it up. Just cut a quick Steve Good ornament to try it out. I'm in love!
Looks great! I always try to have at least one project or pattern that I think I'm not ready for. Keeps me thinking and learning. I've got a clock right now that's challenging me, but that's half the fun. Keep it up!
Thanks Jeff! If/when you want the full size pattern just let me know and I can email it to you. It's too big to upload anywhere here as far as I can tell.
Took me all day.... But I learned a ton about Inkscape and am so excited for my new pattern! Something I've wanted to do for ages and inspired to get to work on it by the recent thread "Atheist-themed scroll saw patterns"
This is one of my favorite Carl Sagan quotes. The style and layout are inspired by Shelia Landry.
Looking forward to cutting it when I get some more wood!
The pattern PDF I made is too big to upload so if you want it just message me and I'll get it to you via email. The finished piece is 12"x19"
