  1. Just as long as it's not the game where you hold them in your hand, toss them up and catch them on the back of your hand! Soon get bruised knuckles.
  2. Thats really good Helmut. Bet she will be very pleased with that set. Reminds me of 65 years ago when I had a tredle fretsaw and made dolls furniture for my sisters. Malcolm http://www.badgerwoodcrafters.co.uk
  3. Hi Gordon, welcome to SSV and hope you enjoy it. Like you, I have retired and although my hobby was photography at that time, woodworking took over a couple of years ago and I soon got interested in bandsaw box making, which has gone well. Now I am interested in trying more scrollsaw working to make Intarsia, but the scrollsaw I have is an old Record model that we inherited with a load of other tools and I want a new Excalibur EX16 for my birthday in a couple of weeks time when I'm 75. It all looks interesting and another challenge to keep me busy. This SSW looked good and it certainly has a lot of very good scrollers as well as the UKworkshop to which I have been contributing for a while. Good luck and keep in touch. Us Old-Uns need support! 4. That's superb work Brian. How long did you take and how many pieces in that please. It's certainly something to be very proud of. Well done. Malcolm
  5. Lovely work and an excellent present for someone. Well done. Malcolm
  6. Zen, thats very clever. What did you use to make that please. Malcolm
  7. Like the way you think. These are very nice and I particularly like the idea of the ageing silouete. Thanks for showing. Malcolm
  8. Well done, that's a lovely job you have done there and thank you for showing it. Malcolm
  9. Hi D, I'm also new to this site and also to scrolling, having only done a little when making my bandsaw boxes. Now that I have seen Intarsia, I really want to get into that this year, but need a better scrollsaw so am on the lookout for an ExcaliburEX16 as soon as possible Retired 5 years ago and need to keep busy with the help of this site. Hope to see some of your work on here soon. Malcolm
  10. Hi Zed, I'm also a newbie and like this site as it's very friendly and helpful. Hope you manage to put up a few photos when you have finished some work, as I will when I get my Excalibur 16 which I am looking for at present. All the best Malcolm http://www.badgerwoodcrafters.co.uk
  11. Falcon, that's quite remarkable for the first time effort. It looks like something that the manufacturers would use to sell their product, not something most of us could manage after buying it. You obviously have a great tallent and spend lots of time to get it just right. It's the best I have seen. Thanks for showing it Malcolm
  12. Cartridges have cost me a small fortune over the years and I have 2 printers. One old Epson SX415 does printing copying, scanning etc and has 4 colour cartridges and I use that machine for general day to day stuff. The second printer is an Epson R2880 that I bought for my photography hobby, which lapsed when I got into woodworking. Both machines have always had original ink. You know, the one's that cost the most, but they do produce the best images. The R2880 has never been switched off, unless the electricity has been cut and the reason for that is every time you switch off and start up again, you use a lot of additional ink. With any new printer, if you use refil/secondary ink or fill yourself, it will invalidate the guarantee, so particularly with the larger printer (up to A3) that could be costly. Both machines are several years old but fortunately I have never had a problem with either ........ only the ongoing cost. Malcolm
  13. It's right down by the side of my foot, so easy to operate. It's a foot switch which I made up myself for the saw, after a few tips from guys on the UKworkshop.co.uk site which I frequent often. Easy to then move that switch when sat in the chair. Malcolm
  14. I thought about that Sparkey, but came down to the cans of compressed air that are available, which will do me for the time. If the production line gets going, it may be a different matter, but start small and then progress is my motto. Malcolm

    Tips And Tricks

  16. Great start to the never ending supply of timber Dick. Now we all want to see photos of the first completed project. Malcolm
  17. Hi Roly, I wondered if you ever moved forward on the spalted beech you were considering a year ago. It is a wood that I am particularly fond of and have used it several times to make my bandsaw boxes. I happened to get hold of a second lot of slabs (24" x 12" x 1") the other day, completly dry and ready to use, to add to my store and saw a post about spalted beech for breadboards and the thought of the spalting being a problem. That led me to this posting. This is what I recently bought Malcolm
  18. Well done Dan. The start of a great collection. Malcolm
  19. Thats a remarkable job Earl. Your tallent is outstanding. Well done. Malcolm
  20. Well done Jim. It looks nice an tight, so your cutting was on target. I'm sure it will please whoever grts it. Malcolm
  21. It's not usually that tidy and if you saw the whole bench in the final shot you would be shocked. It took me quite a time to tidy up and put all the tools back in theright position.
  22. Nice work Randy. Something unusual and attractive. Good idea for increasing the depth of the box using a scrollsaw as well. Which saw do you have. Malcolm
  23. These slabs are 12" x 24" and 1" thick and it's the second set of 4 that I have managed to get hold of. Spalted beech is very popular in the boxes I make and I needed some stock. It was just lucky to drop on them, but it will do me for now
  24. Certainly is a nice haul Roly, should keep you busy. I managed to get my hands on some spalted Beech the other day Malcolm
  25. Wonderful work. You should be proud of your skills. Thank you for showing it. Malcolm
