    Excalibur EX-16

In the UK, there has been many comments on the Excalibur Scrollsaws, it's problems and how it compares with the likes of the Hegner. If anyone is interested, they can se these comments on UK Workshop at ...... http://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/excalibur-scrollsaws-t95005.html The Excalibur was being sold in the UK through one distributer, but that has now ceased and another similar machine has taken it's place as the Axminster Trade Ex 16, Ex21 & Ex30 with a 3 year guarantee and the earlier problems have been overcome. These machines have only just come on to the marked in the UK and there are a couple of reviews on these also in the Scrolling - Scrollsaws section. I have just purchased the new Ex16 version and have reviewed this in UKW. Perhaps some of you may be interested. Malcolm

    Excalibur EX-16

Advertised my old scrollsaw yesterday and sold it today. The intention was to then go and get an Excalibur EX16 and move up a gear or two. Unfortunately the sole distributer in the UK (Axminster) have withdrawn all Excaliburs in order to re-brand them as 'Axminster Excalibur Trade' and in thier own business colours - Grey & Red. Launching 3rd week in February. Now I have no saw until then. They say that the machines have not changed and will in fact be a little lower in price, but as the brand was so good, why does it need re-branding? Any comments over on your side of the pond about any changes with Excalibur there? Malcolm

    Excalibur EX-16

Nice to hear the reports on the Ex16, as it's the one I favour at present. I have not done a lot of scrollsaw work, having only been in woodwork 2 years in retirement, but bandsaw boxes have been fun to make. http://wwwbadgerwoodcrafters.co.uk Thought this year to have a go at intarsia, but need a better saw than the old 16" one I have.. Malcolm
  4. Pleased to se you joining in Yann.
  5. From the other side of the big pond, welcome. Enjoy the sawdust whenever you can.
  6. Very nice. I havent seen this sort before and they do stand out. Should be very popular with the firemen and Linemen. Well done and thanks for showing them.
  7. It just goes to show that real talent will always shine through and be recognised. Well done Dick
  8. Very nice video production, something I have not got the hang of, but perhaps I should try it sometime.
  9. Hey Alex, that's a really great job on the box with some unique ideas that you have managed to put into practice. All the equipment in the shop helps a lot and you certainly know how to use them To be so acomplished and comfortable in the workshop at your age is really remarkable and gives you a real head start on your friends, with something that most of them will not be able to do. Far better to be active there than wasting time elsewhere. I hope that you manage the time to continue your hobby and with your studies, that's not always easy. But if you can manage to put in a little time occassionally, it will be worth it as you have the makings of a future expert. Good luck to you and I hope to see more of your work soon. Please let us all know what the result of the competion was. Also, well done Dad, for showing him the way.
  10. Welcome Doug, I'm also a new mamber from across the big pond in the UK. Seem like a noice bunch here, so I'm in for the duration and looking to up my game with a new scrollsaw soon Good luck
  11. Hiya Decker, welcome to SSV. I'm not so far from you, just south of Birmingham and a new member myself. I had a small 16" Record scrollsaw until justr recently when I sold it with the idea of buying an Excalibur EX16 or 21, but on the same day as the sale, the Excaliburs were withdrawn by Axminster to be re-branded as Axminster Ex16-21 & 30 Trade and launched later this month. There will be a couple of small changes, the work holdown/foot is changing as is the power switch, which are discribed as improvements? So I'm waiting for the launch 17th February to have a look-see. Not done a lot of scrolling, but would like to start Intarsia and seeif I can make the grade of some of the guys on this site, Good luck and keep in touch.
  12. Thats a lot of excellent work. Looks delightful.
  13. Ahhhh yes, but will it keep the birds at bay? Nice job and rather unique.
  14. Have you seen this item, which may help http://www.scrollsaws.com/SawReviews/excalibar_tune_up.htm See the 'Running Rough' part Malcolm
  15. Hi Jerry, have you tried the Etsy site. Have your own shop. I have one at http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/badgerbandsawboxes These shops are from people all over the world. Malcolm
  16. Have you seen this This is also another part which may helphttp://www.scrollsaws.com/SawReviews/excalibar_tune_up.htm Malcolm
  17. Just as long as it's not the game where you hold them in your hand, toss them up and catch them on the back of your hand! Soon get bruised knuckles.
  18. Thats really good Helmut. Bet she will be very pleased with that set. Reminds me of 65 years ago when I had a tredle fretsaw and made dolls furniture for my sisters. Malcolm http://www.badgerwoodcrafters.co.uk
  19. Hi Gordon, welcome to SSV and hope you enjoy it. Like you, I have retired and although my hobby was photography at that time, woodworking took over a couple of years ago and I soon got interested in bandsaw box making, which has gone well. Now I am interested in trying more scrollsaw working to make Intarsia, but the scrollsaw I have is an old Record model that we inherited with a load of other tools and I want a new Excalibur EX16 for my birthday in a couple of weeks time when I'm 75. It all looks interesting and another challenge to keep me busy. This SSW looked good and it certainly has a lot of very good scrollers as well as the UKworkshop to which I have been contributing for a while. Good luck and keep in touch. Us Old-Uns need support! Malcolm http://www.badgerwoodcrafters.co.uk
  20. Lovely work and an excellent present for someone. Well done. Malcolm
  21. Like the way you think. These are very nice and I particularly like the idea of the ageing silouete. Thanks for showing. Malcolm
  22. Hi D, I'm also new to this site and also to scrolling, having only done a little when making my bandsaw boxes. Now that I have seen Intarsia, I really want to get into that this year, but need a better scrollsaw so am on the lookout for an ExcaliburEX16 as soon as possible Retired 5 years ago and need to keep busy with the help of this site. Hope to see some of your work on here soon. Malcolm
  23. Hi Zed, I'm also a newbie and like this site as it's very friendly and helpful. Hope you manage to put up a few photos when you have finished some work, as I will when I get my Excalibur 16 which I am looking for at present. All the best Malcolm http://www.badgerwoodcrafters.co.uk
  24. Cartridges have cost me a small fortune over the years and I have 2 printers. One old Epson SX415 does printing copying, scanning etc and has 4 colour cartridges and I use that machine for general day to day stuff. The second printer is an Epson R2880 that I bought for my photography hobby, which lapsed when I got into woodworking. Both machines have always had original ink. You know, the one's that cost the most, but they do produce the best images. The R2880 has never been switched off, unless the electricity has been cut and the reason for that is every time you switch off and start up again, you use a lot of additional ink. With any new printer, if you use refil/secondary ink or fill yourself, it will invalidate the guarantee, so particularly with the larger printer (up to A3) that could be costly. Both machines are several years old but fortunately I have never had a problem with either ........ only the ongoing cost. Malcolm
  25. It's right down by the side of my foot, so easy to operate. It's a foot switch which I made up myself for the saw, after a few tips from guys on the UKworkshop.co.uk site which I frequent often. Easy to then move that switch when sat in the chair. Malcolm
