  1. Love the patterns !! Nice work there, Monti... They would look great in any toddlers room !! Thanks for sharing...
  2. 1 month Got my saw as a Christmas present from my Wife.. So glad she did.. I've had so much fun already and this Community has been a huge help !!
  3. Hi Dan - Yes it is !! And I found it thanks to this Community.. For any of the newbies that want a program to use for design work, INKSCAPE is one of the ways to go..
  4. I'm humbled.. Thank you all for your positive comments and suggestions.. The verdict is in (based on your replies) - No burning necessary !!! I do like the idea of a base with the date - thanks Paul... I'll be working on that today (if I can) and will post the final product soon.. Showed my Wife when she got home from work - she cried.. (I think the reality of her little girl getting married is setting in the closer and closer we get to the date !!)
  5. Amazing ! And that you did that with that hand saw makes it even more special. That's one lucky phone !!
  6. Very nice, Dave !! Good choice of wood and some great cutting there !!
  7. Welcome Gordon !! Get ready to have some fun !! Look forward to seeing some work soon.. Interesting "icon" for your profile picture. Perhaps one of your projects could be Popeye !!!
  8. Ok so my daughter is getting married in May and I wanted to do a little something for her and her fiance' for their fireplace - their initials in hearts. I designed this last night using Inkscape. It's about 9" long and 8" high.. 1/2" thick. There is no background to it (the red is the wall) and debating on whether or not I want to put a base on it. Perhaps I'll make it so they can use the base if they want or not use it and hang it up.. I was going to scroll their wedding date along the bottom but I chickened out. Didn't want to take a chance on messing it up.. Perhaps I'll "burn" the date in - dunno yet.. File this next tidbit under "Interesting" (Well - to me, anyway..) While I was working on this piece, the bulb blew out in my workshop and there I was in the dark, with only the saw lamp on.. After I said a few mumbling words under my breath (OK - maybe NOT so much under my breath), I noticed that I can actually see the lines and my cuts much clearer with the light out.. So I didn't replace the bulb until after I was done. Dunno - maybe it made me concentrate more on the piece and where I was cutting but from now on, I guess I'll be working with the light off and only using the saw lamp !!
  9. Congrats on both !!! Fire that Excalibur up and let's see what it can do !
  10. Welcome, Edward.. You found the right place !! Enjoy scrolling and pick the brains of the experts here.. You'll enjoy it even more !!
  11. Hi Marge. No background yet. I just held it up against the wall so the detail of the piece would show up better..
  12. Welcome Jim. You came to the right place to learn and grow in the hobby. These folks are great. Remember.. It's all about having fun. On a separate note, thank you for your past service to our Country. I tip my scroll off to you, Sir..
  13. NICE !!! I bet people won't believe you made those using a scroll saw !!!
  14. Oh my !! That is a lot of work !! Definitely time to take a break, settle in and watch football today !! Beautiful work there..
  15. Wow interesting !! So the pieces only go in ONE way or are their multiple ways of completing it ?
  16. A friend of mine likes the "lighthouse / sea" type of decorations so I decided to do this and give it to him for his den. I still need to paint/stain it.. Not sure if it's anything I want to "brag" about though - it was quick and easy enough to do.. Wanted to share anyway.. On to the next project !!
  17. Very nice, Roly.. Thanks for sharing.. Bringing scrolling into the social network with that hashtag !!
  18. Same here... Got mine as a Christmas present from my Wife.. I see an eventual upgrade in BOTH of our future's but I'll hang on to this one for a while for sentimental reasons..
  19. Hi Dave.. I know I'm just a newbie here but my 2 cents for what it's worth.. 1) Don't be so hard on yourself. Your piece came out great. Remember, we scroll to have fun. If you enjoyed doing it, fantastic !! No one knows if you followed the pattern to the 'T' anyway. There are no mistakes... . It's healthy though to be critical of our own work. That's what drives us to be better. 2) I also found that spirals are harder to work with while trying to keep a straight line. When I do use them, I make sure I go a bit slower for more control. So don't think it's you. I've read that many others have a problem with spirals. 3) The only way we all get experience is by "playing" more and more. I bet that once you get more projects under your belt and then try this again, you will be pleasantly surprised ! Keep up the good work. We're anxious to see more. Btw - What saw are you using ?
  20. Welcome, Zed.. You found the right place !! Look forward to seeing some of your work. Enjoy the Community and most of all, have Fun !!!
  21. Thanks Marg ! And yes she did.. Very much.. She already placed in her china cabinet which is sayin' somethin' !!
  22. Thanks for the kind words, everyone.. It was a fun project to do and happy to share it with you all..
  23. Welcome Mike !! Lots to learn here and these folks are great !! You definitely came to the right place.. Congrats on the Excalibur and from right out of the gate too !! I've only been scrolling since December (the saw was a Christmas gift from my Wife) and I am thoroughly enjoying the hobby.. Looking to move up to the Dewalt 778 in the next couple of months, myself.. Take some time and learn your way around the site here - learn the "how to's" like creating an album, a blog, etc.. Just speaking as a "newbie" myself and some of the things I had to do.. Post your work - we'll all be happy to see it .. Most important - Have Fun !!
  24. Both.. The mind is willing ( to stand) but the back has the final say. Unfortunately the ol' back ain't what it used to be so I'll start out standing, taking a seat when I have longer, more or less "straighter" cuts, then stand again when I need to make more accurate cuts.. Weird I know but for some reason, I seem to have more control while standing.. Eventually, I would like to get a foot switch (probably not until I get my next saw) and when I do, I'll most likely do more sitting than standing..
  25. Hi everyone.. Just finished a project.. My Wife loves Hummingbirds and I found this pattern in the "Big Book of Scroll Saw Woodworking" so I figured I'd give it a try.. First try at a "puzzle" piece.. 2 pics below, pieces apart and then together.. (I was actually surprised that it stayed up !! )
