    Excalibur EX-16

I bought the EX16 used. I have only had it about a week. So far I think it is very user freindly. Easy to change Blades, quiet and minimal vibration. The bad. Lack of a descent blower. But I jury rigged my small trim compresser to the underside of the lift arm.Works great. Now I will compare the rest with my Hegner. The Hegner has a lot more power little less vibration and a little quieter.,So the bottom line is i really like this saw.But I will be using my Hegner for any hardwoods over 3/4 and all of my compound cuts. And the EX for a lot of blade entrance work. If I did not have the Hegner I would not hesitate to use the EX for everything. But both saws are set up next to each other with lights and foot switches. The Hegner has fewer moving parts so why give the EX a work out when it is not needed.I think I have 2 great saws.So both will be used no back up saw here

    Porter Cable PCB375SS

I am new to this forum and to this type of scroll sawing .I have been a carpenter for over 30 years and own about every power tool made .I am not very fond of Amerasian tools. With that said I have tried a lot of scroll saws From CL to tool suppliers.with the help of forums like this i kinda knew what I was looking for and really did not want to buy someone else's problem. So i bought the PC. Had it for a couple of day's. I plugged it in and it had a very loud knock I traced it to a screw that holds the switch housing on that was hitting the upper arm.Took care of that. The saw is very quiet and passed the nickel test. But for how long,I don't know. Two things i do not like are the blade change and the plastic insert I made a tool for the blade change and it works pretty good.I made a new plastic insert that is a lot stiffer. The angle gauge is a joke .It is a 200.00 saw made in Asia..So just for insurance I won a bid on eBay for a Hegner with a stand.I don,t know what to expect from the Hegner,it should be here next week

    Hegner Multimax 18-V

I bought this saw used on eBay It was made in 1998.When the saw arrived i noticed that the only warable parts were 2 bushings.i ordered them and never had to replace them The only problem I have with this saw is the knob on the quick clamp witch is tooless. But i am losing my strength in my right handed this little mod. solved that problem It was like buying a new saw. This saw is 18 years old and it stills passes the nickel test if i could stand the nickel on edge without shaking

    Hegner Multimax 18-V

This little modification to the Hegner Quick clamp has changed the blade installation dramatically. It got to the point where i was ready to give up on the Quick clamp. All I did was add a little handle to the Quickclamp.i used a aluminum tire valve extension to keep the it as light as possible and a little epoxy.Added a rubber cap for the handle. Before i drilled the hole in the clamp I mounted it to the saw and put a blade in the clamp.Tightened the clamp and marked the handle hole at around 1 o'clock on the clamp knob. If you need more info let me know. Tony

    Hegner Multimax 18-V

I bought this saw on Ebay used. It did not survive the trip to well. But a little adjustment here and there and a little paint it is like new.I do not find the blade changes on the Hegner bad at all .Maybe not as fast as some. But i do not do this for a living either. It is more for relaxation. All in all I think i would buy one New knowing what a great saw it is and if I could not find one used.I have been dealing with Advance Machinery for many years.I bought my Tormek Sharpening System from them few years ago.So knowing they are a Hegner Dealer is a plus.
  7. This is not Nebraska Here when you are retired and living on SS You better do it yourself. I worked with tools all of my life and now it pays off.
  8. Sometime It is not the money. It is the availability. In my case I could get the gasket. But because the generator is a 20 Year old Yamaha They thought they were going to make a score. That was not going to happen. As long as I had something that looked like a gasket.Printed it out .Good to go
  9. Carburators are a little fragile today I made a lot of gaskets with a ball pean. But these gaskets were thick and some kind of rubber .I think the hammer would just bounce back The carburator was on a Yamaha 2000 inverter It is a small carb.
  10. Wayne I was desperate. With all of the tools in the shop. The scroll saw comes to the rescue
  11. I needed 2 thicker gaskets for my generator .Nowhere to be found. So I copied the original Gasket .Sandwitched gasket material between 2 pieces of 1/4". Hot glued the edges and cut using a UR3 They came out perfect
  12. No matter what power tool you buy from Woodcraft you are on your own with service .I bought everything from Festool to Rikon from them.I knew this when I bought the tools. The service is only as good as the people wno made the tool.Have you ever seen a repair room in a Woodcraft stor or a parts room.
  13. You covered it all
  14. Looks good. This is where a sanding mop shines
  15. I am 74 now when I was in my 60,s i got into Bicycles.Riding and repairing. I still have a bicycle shop in my basement and the 5 drawer tool cabinet is full with Metric tools. So i did not have a choice When dealing with bikes that Have japanese and Italian components you do not have a choice.
  16. Just a little Maint. Is required now and then .No matter what saw you end up with
  17. I use both But at 74 yo I am leaning towards Metric There are only 10 MM to a CM.No1/2-1/4-1/8-1/16.1/32.or1/64 .How much easier could you get.
  18. Yes 3 in 1 is fine What I do is place a rag under the bushings a few drops on the back of each bushing Tension a blade up and run it a few seconds then wipe off excess to keep the dust from collecting.I know it sounds like you are oiling an old singer sewing machine .But the bushings in my saw are the original 1998
  19. I just got my order from Ocooch Hardwoods.Along with the order came a 20# box of assorted hardwoods The box was 20.00 + shipping.I thought there were some really nice pieces of scroll wood .If you want a try different hardwoods Ithink this is a good way to start
  20. Just the one in De. They are only a few miles from Advance in New Castle.
  21. Woodcraft in De. Still has a couple of original EXcaliburs in there store room. They also sell Hegner for Advance Mach.
  22. Ray did you make the same mistake I did When you searched Kingspor for sanding mop there are more than just the one page There are about 150 items that show up.My new set just came in It has 48 sheets 2 arbors spacers and plastic end caps for polishing This one is 320 grit .Now just the 6" refills are 19.00 and use allthread for an arbor.
  23. I think they are all the same saw.If I needed a saw .would not hesitate to buy either one.
  24. Sorry i was lookig at the other stand. That should work I thought the 788 would be too heavy for the first stand
  25. I meant a power tool stand .Do what looks like right
