  1. Wood craft will not take a chance on a low Quality saw for that kind of money. If they would have had it in my Woodcraft store I might have taken a shot .But not without cutting wood first .Like I said I am very comfortable with my EX and that saw looks like it's twin.
  2. That is funny I just got a request for a Dachshund from my wifes co-worker he is about 6'3" and loves his little dog.I did not have a pattern with the lettering so I did this one
  3. The king I would be concerned about returning it to.But this EX was never out of the box.even though there was no warranty if it was DOA i could return the saw with Ebay buyer protection. I already have one so I was pretty confident about the saw. I took it out of the box, fine tuned it did some cutting is was good to go.I do not really need this saw My EX and Hegner run perfect.I bought them used off of eBay also. The price on the used EX was almost what i paid for this new one.i am geting like Hotshot now Could not pass up a deal
  4. I almost went for it .But when I went to my local Woodcraft. They knew nothing about the saw .So if you bought it and something went wrong you could not walk into there store and drop it off I imagine. With a new name branded saw i would not take the chance
  5. Was it patent infringement the reason for the design of the Seyco or was it because they could get more saws in a shipping container .But to do away with the tilt mechanism .That was price cut .Every Scrollsaw from 150.00 to 2000.00 has a frame to it and most have a tilt knob I know most people never tilt the saw but I do.Even with the knob it is tough to get within a single degree.I know it must be a good running saw or Ray would not put his name on it.
  6. Not from Seyco Got off of Ebay made an offer and she took it.Still wrapped up with bands on the box.i am not short changing the Seyco Plus I did not want to spend 1000.00 for a saw if i did not need it. I would go for the King saw first It looks identical to my EX. and is only 550.00I don' need a larger table
  7. After looking at the prices for parts on Seyco I have decided to just buy a new Ex I made them an offer and they excepted. It was cheaper than trying to stock spare parts.there are still a lot of Excalibur saws out there. The Seyco saw just does not turn me on. I don't like the way you have to Tilt the head. And i really do not like the the Frame and saw Head are seperate But It looks like the Excalibur. Has anything else changed. These are my personal thoughts I just do not like to change things if it is not broke I have been very comfortable with my EX So this is an Insurance Policy so to speak
  8. Paul you could do it 2 ways.Plug your vac into an outlet.Plug the foot switch into the Vac and the saw into the foot Switch. Or you could plug your foot switch into an outlet.Put a 3 way on the foot switch and plug both saw and Vac into foot switch This set up you will not need tool start But i like the first way better
  9. Rolf if you are asking me.Yes they have tool start
  10. What I have been using on the EX is Vinyl shelf paper The same sheet has been on for 2 Months.Sometimes i think it is too slippery. But keeps the underside of the wood real clean
  11. I have had my Fein for over ten years .I use it for everything .Very quiet especially my older one It has 4 speeds When I use it for the Scrollsaw I set it about half .For the lathe I use full speed I have it hooked up to a Dust Deputy with 2 ports
  12. Cutting 3/4 hardwood like Oak and Hard Maple Will bring out the best and worst in a saw.I cut 75% hardwood 3/4 and 1/2 inch.I have a slab of 1" oak that i use sometimes.even the Hegner is slow feeding that.
  13. I don't think Woodcraft would sell HF quality tools. They sell Jet and Dewalt And sold Excalibur .The Woodcraft in Delaware now sells Hegner. The first and only store to do it.I guess they made a deal with Advance to try it out .Of course they are only a few Miles apart.
  14. Iggy not to get off subject .I just sold a Festool Miter saw It is probably one of the most expensive miter saws you could buy .1500.00 . They tell you to save the box for as long as you own the saw. The box is cardboard but it is as strong as a solid wood box. They will not except the saw back for any repair warranted or not with out there box.If it out of warranty they will ship you a box if you pay postage. This is a very accurate saw with double line Laser.Any hard bump could knock this out of whack.I think if you are going to pay 1800. 00 for a scroll saw somebody better be doing there homework I don't care if the saw is made in the USA or in Germany it should be made to handle the trip and also packaged to be handled by a Gorilla on steroids
  15. Thanks Kevin I just checked The Bearing are about 75.00 I am going to have to buy that Dewalt a lot cheaper than i thought
  16. Kevin Did you buy your Dewalt new And if so how many times did you have to rebuild it.I am looking at my Local CL for a cheap Dewalt to take apart and rebuild for a winter project
  17. I did not replace bearings in this saw.Just repacked them Because they were packed with grease when the saw was put together .Dewalt has that problem.no grease when put together is why they need bearings after a year. I have been using Timken bearing Grease all my life I still own 2 trailers and that is what I use for them.I am sure it will work on any scroll saw made.
  18. If I use mobile 1 Synthetic
  19. I bought my EX about a year ago.So I am guessing it is about 3 years old So I figured i would do a little Maint.on it.I replaced the Top blade clamp.Don't think I needed it While I had it apart i repacked all of the needle bearings on the front of the saw.Just what everybody was talking about EX does have greased bearings So all of the bushings looked good.Did not tear the back end apart.I think I will wait on that.A little more complicated.its not broke so I will leave it.Looking at my 19 year old Hegner sitting next to it I figured It was do for Maint..So 4 drops of 3 in1 oil did the trick.Good for 2 more weeks
  20. Yes going to a more aggressive blade if needed is why I try to do.I never checked the saw so much until I started cutting Puzzles
  21. I never did like an aggresive cut saw. I always make sure that my blade is cutting straight up and down. When I started cutting puzzles i check that blade very often. 3/4 " stock is unforgiving with puzzles for me because I use all Hardwood.I change blades often so I do not force the stock. I have been lucky with FDUR #3 and #5. Iggy I get maybe 1 puzzle a blade Some time I may change blades more often
  22. I did one of them it was a USMC. Nobody said anything about the 20 rubber bands around the blank. So I started taking them off before the CA was applied I don't how I found all of those little pieces. The three pen kits that i use are PSI,Berea, and the really high end kits that are hard to come by are Dayacom.Because they only wholesale And places like Exotic Blanks Have a tough time buying a high quantity of 100.00 pen kits.
  23. There are many Suppliers out there They sell kits from 2.00 up to 150.00 just for the kits There are so many kits out there that in over 250 pens i have made .I have only duplicated about 10%.Only because i was asked to. When I bought my lathe it was for pens and ornaments Not for anything larger.I never figured on selling pens. But last Christmas my wife took a about 10 Pens in a pouch to work just to see what would happen. Well she sold close to a 100 Pens I have been selling them by word of mouth since then And the more expensive pens sell themselves. So far I have paid for my tools and over 100 kits that i have in stock. One member of SSV said never lower your prices and I don't
  24. Were they a good saw in it's day There is one that is very clean with little use for sale locally .They are asking 375.00 for it .
  25. About a year ago I was experimenting with my Hegner thump clamp Well to make a long story short I did drill a socket head screw out to except a rotating head from another thumb clamp.3 things you will need .A drill bit to fit the stem on the button .A centering bit to get the drill bit started .And a drill press would be a lot better than hand held
