  1. I also combine both. I did a Patriot and a Bolt Action Pen and combined a display stand with there initials and a Breast Cancer Awareness pen with a Scrolled Caduceus stand for a Nurse at a Cancer research center. So this combination does work out.
  2. I just started turning pens.Really enjoy it But still use my saw a lot .I have a show coming up next week.Signed up for the show to make some room in the house Running out of table space But i am curious to see how well the pens sell at the show.I have been turning about 2 Months and and about 90 pens later. It really surprised me how many pens I sold just by word of mouth. It must be the Holiday for pens and fast Gifts.
  3. Don if you need air .This is what you need.If I am doing steady cutting it cycles on about every 1/2 Hour with a wake up call.Got to adjust the air pressure or it will blow the dust and the work piece off the table
  4. Exactly what happened.I checked the blade first. That is what made me start looking at the set screws. The blade was wobbling side to side. Set screws were loose and traveling all over the place.Bought some fresh Blue threadlocker.Soaked the set screws in breakcleen Now I am good to go I hope. Will be cutting some Rosewood this morning.Should be a good test
  5. Thanks Steve I butted the feelers gauge. Then went a 1/4 turn for insurance.Seems to be fine now.
  6. I am getting ready to Lock Tite the set screws on the upper and lower clamps.Should they be set even with the inside wall of the clamps.I was thinking of using a feelers Gauge inside of the opening of the clamp and setting the set screw up to the Feelers Gauge.
  7. Two things you have to look for on the Hegner for that kind of money. Is it variable speed and does it have the front tension lever. You need both on a Hegner. If it does not have either.Stay away The tension lever will set you back another 200.00.The variable speed motor set up will set you back the price of a new Jet saw.I have an 18 Hegner and it is one heck of a saw.I also have the 16 EX.But for 3/4" and compound cutting the Hegner is my go too saw.If you bottom feed the Hegner will be the last you you will need to buy.It is just a smooth running work horse. You will get used to the clamps very fast.I bought Exrtra clamps and keep them loaded with with the size blade I am using.
  8. I have not been riding at all .And because i am taking treatments it will probably just sit there until i sell it
  9. You do not want to go too small. Pennstateind sells a dedicated pen lathe. But you are limited to pens and bottle stoppers I have a Rikon 70-100 it is considered a bench top. I think that size is is about right for what you want Rockler sells there own brand small lathe about the size of my Rikon It has had decent reviews for the money. All of my equipment is on wheels as I need them I just pull them out and plug them in.Now if I can sell my Motorcycle I would have much more room.
  10. Roly I do both at the same time. While the epoxy is drying I am cutting. So I have saw dust coming from everywhere.
  11. Really nice pens.I can't believe with all of this technology, texting .email.People still love nice pensThe only Pens that sell for me are the high end exotic woods and Acrylic
  12. I have been donating smaller pieces of scroll work to different functions. And I enjoy it.But the larger pieces I hate to part with.So my wife is forcing me to go to a Craft show next month so I could make some room in the house for the Holidays.I am running out of room. What you see in the one photo is about half of what is around the house.I agreed if she sold the scroll work, I would sell Pens.I will see what happens. This will be my first show
  13. I am enjoying both as a hobby. But if were trying to make a few extra bucks with either I would go for my lathe. When I started turning pens I had no intensions of selling any of them I sold quite a few pens by word of mouth at real good prices. Then I went on Etsie and checked what scroll work was selling for.Might as well give them away.So if I am enjoying a hobby and getting paid for it.That is a double wammy Any other thoughts on this subject.
  14. I don't think keeping tension on will hurt the blade .But it might cause a little stress on bearings,or in my case Hegner bushings. It does mention it in my manual So out of habit i just pop the tension lever when i walk away from the saw
  15. Best thing since sand paper was invented.Remember the smaller the piece slower the RPM and a lighter the touch.I am still looking for about 5 pieces that flew away.
  16. Probably the reason they are so quiet Rusty is because of the blade set up.
  17. As you know I have not been scroll sawing for that long.I have about 10 or 12 orders from Ocooch. And pleased with every order. On time and good quality lumber
  18. Rusty you will like it. Now it uses 12 cutters and when you buy spears they only come 10 in a pack. Figure that one out .Well i ordered a set of spear cutters.Never used them yet. But the idea is to just replace the one if it gets nicked Plus they have 2 cutting edges on each cutter.
  19. Well you did it
  20. Is the same Except for the Cutter Head.It uses a Helical type cutter.Very nice finish on the cut.Cuteck has pretty good service and parts.
  21. Yes I have been using #3 UR But I thought I would have to go to a smaller blade.Maybe not, It might just be me
  22. I started to do Puzzles I have been doing to much reading on what blade to use. The puzzles I did so far seem to be a little loose I have been using 3/4" for the Woodimals. But they do not seem to hold together for a stand up puzzle Should I invest in a puzzle Blade Or keep using FDUR.If so what size is good for this type of cutting Thanks Tony
  23. I bought a Cutech Jointer a couple of months ago I comes with Helical cutter head with 2 cutting sides Plus you could buy optional carbide cutters if you use pallet wood.I bought it when I inherited some rough sawn lumber.Using the Router table jointer function was getting to be a hassle.I may use it once or twice a week. But what a pleasure to use. It is light enough to store it out of the way.But I have mine mounted on a rolling stand along with my Wen Belt sanderI alongside it.Bought it direct from Cutech 289.00 Shipped.
  24. What a set of hands.Dave did ever work for the mint Engraving.
  25. Len i thought you meant trying to cut a pen on a scroll saw LOL
