  1. It is a combination of scroll sawing, wood turning and flat work. It's made from walnut, poplar, maple, lacewood and oak for the track and ties. I was able to use up a lot of my scrap making this. The finish is shellac followed up with a coat of wax. I had to stain the tender since there was a lot of sapwood on the body of the tender.

  15. I got a calendar from KME who is a local mfg. of fire trucks, each page has a scale drawing of a truck on the back of the page. I took the calendar to a copy shop and had them enlarge it until the wheels I had just fit the wheels on the drawing. The truck is made from poplar, for the roll up doors I used 1/8" dowels and diluted red paint for the stain. I made 3 of them, kept one for myself, gave one to our local volunteer fire dept. and the last one was given to the owner of KME.
