  1. Thank you guys. Its close, but not what she wanted. I'll try again once they release a high res picture I can work from. I appreciate the help.
  2. Can anyone help me? I'm trying to make a pattern of King Ezekiel from The Walking Dead, but there are NO high resolution pictures of him right now. I got the best I could and made a pattern, but I just can't get much detail in the face. I also can't get the legs to show up in the pattern because they're so dark and freehanding them isn't working, but I think I can live with that the way it is. Does anyone think they can help?
  3. They look great, but I'm not sure about the glitter backing.
  4. I was going to do the resin initially, but I never used it before and didn't have enough time to practice. I definitely want to do it later. It'll be much easier to get everything straight. What type of resin do you use? I've read that some can scratch really easily and I don't want to make something that will look bad in a month. If anyone wants to do it like this, don't use a table saw to cut the plastic. First, it throws bits all over you and hurts. Second, the edges are jagged. I should have gotten a cutter from the hardware store and done it right, but time was not on my side.
  5. Thanks guys. I set up at a Pagan Pride festival and made a few things to sell. It was pretty well received. I might make one into a coffee table at some point.
  6. Finished this a few weeks ago. Put it together on the fly, so I didn't really have a pattern. Backer is whiteboard and letters and symbols are stained poplar. People at the festival seemed to really like it. I was on a very short time frame, so I would have changed lots if I had the chance.
  7. Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes. I have a belt sander that has an 8" sanding disc. It's nearly impossible to find that size locally, but I can find 6 inch. Would there really be any harm in using the 6" or 7" discs on this machine?
  8. Thanks everyone. It definitely was a learning experience. I did hand out as many cards as possible, but it only amounted to 10 or less since most of the people that came in were families of at least 2-3. I've been to things and not sold anything, but it was always more fun than this. I think that's what bothers me the most. I usually have a decent time hanging out with my wife (we make sure her booth is next to mine) and talking to people, but there were so few people coming in I spent most of the day researching things on my phone and reading a book. I don't mind not making much money (well, I don't prefer it) but it was just seven hours of boring.
  9. Last spring, my wife and I (she makes soap) went to a craft fair a few towns over. Someone involved in the American Legion in another town took business cards and contacted some other vendors and us for a craft fair they're throwing. Its a smallish town, but lots fo home-town pride, so we thought it'd be a decent time. We were misled. First, this is the first time they were putting something like this on. We did not know that. We were told there were lots of vendors. 12 registered, and four other than us showed up. There were four larger events going on today for crafts within a 20 mile radius of the town, but they didn't even check on anything like that. All done, we had less than 30 people show up (total) in about seven hours, no one spent a dime on my stuff, my wife made enough to make her table fee back. A very total wash. Gave out some business cards and one semi-serious lead, but nothing else. On the bright side, we adopted a sweet lady pitbull last night and barring some adjustment pains with the other dogs, it's going pretty well.
  10. Anyone know where I can buy this pattern? I know it's from Scroller Online, but I've recently found out they rip off other pattern designers so I'm trying to take my business elsewhere if I can.
  11. Thanks. 2 coats of poly isn't too much more effort. Sounds stable to me.
  12. I tried to find the original post, but I can't seem to. Someone here said you should always seal the back of your pieces because unsealed wood would warp and distort the piece. How much should you seal the back? I put three coats of poly on the front of the piece I finished last night, but not sure how much to use on the back. Since you can't see it, would one heavy coat on the back suffice?
  13. Going to be great when it's done, but it'll take a lot of slow, patient cuts. Lots of thin lines between the intersections. You might want to consider making the spacing between the intersections a little thicker to be safe. Can't wait to see it.
  14. Does anyone have a pattern of a Honda goldwing? I can't find one in a search and there is a Harley pattern in the library that's close but not it. A coworker is leaving our office suddenly and I'd like to make it for him before he leaves. Steve good has one that's too simple and sue met has one that's great but I don't love it.
  15. Sue Mey design done in two layers of 1/8" birch plywood. Made for a co-worker that just bred.
  16. You can turn this feature off in most cars. The owners manual should tell you how.
  17. Sounds great. Thanks. How far does the conditioner usually go? How many puzzles do you usually do with one? Poplar, expecially the sides, seems to soak up any type of finish I use.
  18. Looks great. How do you finish it? Just brush on a coat. Do you coat the sides of the individual pieces or just put the puzzle together and brush it on?
  19. I was going to leave them plain because the grain looked really good on them, but now I'm having second thoughts. The wood is pretty soft. I have some Watco Danish oil in the basement I've only used once. I read somewhere that it hardens wood from the inside out, so that could be a good way to go.
  20. On advice from another member here, I bought the Woodimals book. Cut these yesterday. Might work on another base for the giraffe, but they turned out alright. We'll see if they sell. Really fun to cut. Done from 3/4" shelf pine.
  21. I saw someone post one of these on a facebook group a while back and the "Christians" blew the post apart for days literally saying "you're wrong" and generally losing their minds. I just left the page. I would guess the reason there aren't more patterns like this is 1. because of what I mentioned above and 2. like Dwsudekum said, there probably aren't enough people to want them for the pattern makers to justify the time making them. Everyone believes everyone has a right to what they want as long as what they want is being echoed back to them.
  22. I thought about that, too. I used a fine tipped sharpie pen to scribble on the back of one of the leaves after the stain dried and it wrote perfectly fine. I wouldn't use a marker, but I think a fine tipped pen would be just fine.
  23. I made the wedding guestbook tree from Steve Good's site (can't link to it from work). The point of it is it has a tree in the middle and a lot of leaves glued to it. Guests sign the leaves and after the wedding, you have something to hang on the wall. I bought UV-resistant glass (pretty expensive, if you're looking) to protect the signatures, but I'm wondering if there is a need to poly over it. Anything I frame with glass I don't spray poly on because the gloss is on the glass, but I don't know if it's something I should do to protect this. Steve Good, in the pattern, to spray poly over the leaves before signing, but he didn't have glass on the frame.
  24. Ordered the glass today. Not sure what discount was applied at Michael's, but it was originally $56, but knocked down to $24. Got the masterpiece series glass, which is the same except there is virtually no glare. Spending a few pennies on a wedding shower gift when I'm also providing a wedding day gift, but I really like these ladies, so it'll all be worth it. I'll post pictures in a few days.
  25. Thanks, guys. I'll check the local craft stores this weekend.
