  1. Thanks Irene, The artist is Harvey Byler and I sell his patterns if you're ever interested in trying any out. Go to my website and scroll down to the patterns area.
  2. Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, right now, it looks like Saturday is a rain out. Hoping for a change in forecast but amazingly enough the forecasters have been nailing things lately even a full week out. We'll see.
  3. That was the first time I'd made it and a little girl came running up yesterday and just had to have it... her favorite animal. I'll definitely keep those on hand.
  4. Last time I counted, I had 65 breeds of dog and then another 65 other critters that I display at events. Next Saturday I plan on having a Discount Table to thin things down a little. Get rid of items that I haven't sold any of or maybe just 1 or 2 of all year long. I kind of hate to do it cuz sometimes I'll get someone that walks up and says "Do you happen to have a polar bear?" And I like reaching over and grabbing it.
  5. Next to last event of the year was today. Threat of rain in the forecast all week and this morning I decided to attend even though it looked like rain around 1pm. Beautiful weather until the rain came at 1:30. Packed up a little early (3pm scheduled ending) and had a good day... One more event next Saturday, then DONE for the year and I'm ready. Even though fewer events this year due a very rainy summer and Hurricane Florence I'm still ready to take a break and just stockpile puzzles during the winter. Sold 52 puzzles today which was decent. Last Saturday was a rain-out. After my event next Saturday I'll compile all my stats for 2018 and share them for those who are curious.
  6. I recently snagged an unusual and unique board of poplar shown in picture next to a typical looking boring board that I typically find here in NC. I've finished 6 of the 18 patterns I laid out on it, here they are, side by side with some custom ones I cut out of the typical board this week. The exotic board is perfect for the Unicorn, Dragon and Yeti, but I don't think it would be so great for most of the other puzzles I do (dogs and sea creatures), but I do love how these are looking and I think customers will as well.
  7. I think you need to plan a vacation to the beach and bring your saw and let me try it out. I'll gladly buy a Hegner once I know it matches my cutting style and speed.
  8. If I can find someone nearby with a Hegner that I can play with and cut on for a day, I'd love to try one out. But after buying the Hawk "blind", I won't do that again. I'd very much like to find a more durable saw. It's a pain in the ass to have to set up, swap out attachments and fine tune a new saw each year. I've thought about the Excalibur or similar. They cost about double, but I have no way of knowing if they'll last twice as long as the DW or not so I'm simply sticking with what I know and am comfortable with.
  9. I do all my cutting in a plastic enclosed "room" so the wife won't yell at me about sawdust everywhere.
  10. Oh, and to your suggestion about learning how to fix them... I had all intentions of doing that, I bought all the bearings and bushings needed to refurbish one... I tried it and when I was done, it ran worse than when I started! Nope, not gonna try that again. I have one of my puzzle zombies coming to pick up my two fried ones and he is going to learn how to reburbish them and will donate one and keep one for himself.
  11. Oh JT, apparently you've blocked from your memory the entire ordeal I went through with the Hawk. LOL Seriously, once I FINALLY got the Hawk running properly after getting the replacement arm that was defective, it was a fine saw, but I simply didn't like it and I just donated it last month to a local non-profit organization that works with underprivelaged kids teaching them woodworking. After all that fiasco, I'm simply sticking to the DeWalt's. Paying $450 for a new saw every year is no big deal, it's just a cost of doing business.
  12. My current saw was starting to make the usual noises of wearing out and today it got worse, so it was time to assemble the new saw I ordered from Grizzly a coupld of weeks ago... Say hello to DeWalt #4 for Iggy. Swapping out various attachments and should be up and running shortly.
  13. I needed some more shelf liner that I use to glue my patterns to. Price online had gone up from $5.64 to $8.64 at Walmart so I decided to swing by the local store and see if they had it on hand and what it's priced. Bingo, $5.64 a roll but only had 4 rolls on hand. That's OK, I saved $12... Or did I? Checkout total $59... the $17 of candy wasn't on my shopping list, so did I really save any money? LOL I think I'll order it online from now on.
  14. UPDATE: 2 Down, 3 To Go and I have a new lucky number... Week 1 - 42 sold Week 2 - 42 sold Week 3 - Coming up, weather looks iffy but the forecast will change over the next 7 days. Last year at this event I sold 60 so that's the target
  15. Technically I have 4 scroll saws... 1 dead 1 near dead 1 emergency backup 1 brand new in box ready for near dead one to die
  16. For me, I have my primary saw, but I have an emergency back-up (both DeWalt's). I cut enough that I can't really afford to be out of commission for long, so having the back-up is a must. As soon as I hear my primary saw begin making the telltale sounds of wearing out, I order a new one and have it at the ready.
  17. Beautiful work Ike, thanks for showing us your display.
  18. Very nice work and great variety. Well done!
  19. I'll let you come do one of the 25-30 shows I do each year.
  20. 2018 Salesperson Of The Year goes to... Thank you Melanie, I appreciate you providing the info while I was busy yesterday. And thank you for remembering that $2 out of the $3 I charge goes to Harvey, which is more than he gets from Wooden Teddy Bear who sells them for $4 each. The $1 I get helps to cover the website fees, Shopify fees, credit card/PayPal fees, etc.
  21. All 5 remaining events are outdoors... fingers crossed for good weather all 5.
  22. The race to the finish line... Today was Mythical Day. Five Saturday events in a row coming up starting tomorrow. The weather forecast looks great for tomorrow and next Saturday, just need 3 more good weather days after that and end the season/year on a good note.
  23. Yes, I cut all of my puzzles from poplar.
  24. I've been getting increased requests for cats lately so I'm going to broaden my offerings. Including this new one which I have a feeling is going to be rather popular. Harvey's attention to detail still blows me away sometimes.
  25. Five events in a row coming up starting next Saturday... cutting like crazy. Especially since I had a record breaking event 2 weeks ago and my inventory was depleted.
