  1. Your steps work. Personally, I spray the shelf liner and stick the patterns down onto it. I have this small roller that I then roll over all the patterns I've adhered to the shelf liner to ensure they totally stick. https://www.amazon.com/Speedball-Deluxe-4-Inch-Rubber-Brayer/dp/B000BYVMFC/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1500851688&sr=8-3-fkmr0&keywords=small+wallpaper+roller
  2. Wow. Do you hand sharpen your dull scroll blades too?
  3. I use clear shelf liner and use spray adhesive to glue the pattern to it, it's a lot cheaper than blue painters tape and a lot easier to apply to a standard 12" wide board. Pulls up clean with no residue. I was buying it from Amazon but they stopped offering it in the 12" width for a short time so I ordered 12 rolls from Walmart recently to stockpile. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Duck-Laminate-Peel-and-Stick-Shelf-Liner-Clear/16224481
  4. Week 9 of my Farmers Market and the first time displaying the new kids puzzles (non-dinosaurs). I had almost no kid puzzle interest today, it's funny how each week is hit or miss with things. I have the painted dinos on sale "Buy One Get One Free" to get rid of them and sold 2 (and 2 freebies). Of the new items, only sold one, a bunny within the bunny. I need to dedicate a week soon to making 10 of each kids puzzle in preparation for the big event that is now just 1 month away. Total sales yesterday was 24... seems to be my lucky number, it's the 4th time I've sold that number out of 9 weeks.
  5. Another tip... if you decide you like using food coloring, you can buy it in 16oz bottles from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GURKRK0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  6. Welcome to the cult. Nice cutting.
  7. The pressure is on, and I'm a one trick pony in that I only cut 1 type of thing in 3/4" poplar and pine... Not gonna be a lot of in-depth information to gather from what I have to say I'm afraid but I look forward to sharing whatever I can that may help others.
  8. Roly, one thing I forgot to mention, I use distilled water since I make up a batch and it sits for a little while. Tinker around with how much food coloring you add to the water until you get the darkness/tint you like.
  9. Thanks for the update Scott and appreciate the extra QC inspection, very much appreciated. Enjoy your weekend
  10. I could live with that. LOL My worst fear is a rainy weekend... I'd be devastated.
  11. I'm some sort of fool!!! :-) Yeah, it's definitely steamy here. One of the great things I love about my farmers market is it's only from 8am to 1pm so just as the worst of the heat shows up, it's time to pack up and head home. I haven't heard any update on the status of the new saw yet.
  12. My mega event is coming up August 26th/27th and I'm still cutting like crazy even as I sell at the farmers market every week. I kept waiting and hoping for a rainy Saturday so I'd get a week in which I would just be cutting for the big event, but no such luck. The counts currently are: 120 unique animals on display as usual Currently 241 duplicates cut (see list attached, highlighted ones are those that I need to make more of) 100 kids puzzles on display (Planned. Will need to cut about 60 before the event) 80 duplicates I carry to the farmers market every Saturday that I'll take to the big event as "emergency backup" I have about 40 more duplicates printed and plan to cut, plus any others I have time to make. Grand total = Right around 600 puzzles... Overkill? I do have a couple more sizable events in September, so they won't go to waste. Big Event Duplicates.pdf
  13. Hello Scott, good to see you, welcome to the Village. It's nice to see that BM is in touch with the social media world and interested in what the scroll saw community has to say. We have a great group of folks here from truly all over the world. Some scroll as a way to make a living, some, like myself, scroll as a hobby with a bit of selling, and others scroll purely for the enjoyment. We all have one thing in common though and that's a passion for creating sawdust. We share a lot of information and one topic always being tossed around are saws. Who is using which one, who has bought the new model of XYZ, who swears by a certain manufacturer. I was in the market for a new saw and thought I'd be getting a Hegner, but when I started a post asking for input, I was convinced that the Hawk would be a better fit for me and I took the advice and ordered a Hawk. I look very forward to being able to get my hands on it and be able to provide my personal review of it. Iggy
  14. Hi Roly, When I paint them, it's all over. I use watered down food coloring and dip each piece in and set it aside to dry. I used to wipe off the excess, but stopped doing that and it speeds up the process quite a bit. The kids puzzles are all made out of stock pine from Home Depot, 3/4" thick.
  15. My daughter is leaving for a 2 week vacation tomorrow and when she gets back I'll have her paint one of each. She paints them so that each piece is a different color. They look psychedelic and really cool. I had her do one of the dino's and someone ended up buying it. LOL
  16. Up until now the only kids puzzles I've offered have been dinosaurs. I offered them painted and did well with them and about 2 months ago I started offering them unpainted also for less money and ready for painting by the little ones, and they've done VERY well. Well enough that I'm going to stop offering them painted. Painting them is a pain. Since I'll have some more table space I thought about expanding to more species of dinos but I've had a couple of folks mention that their kids aren't into dinosaurs, so I decided to broaden the selection and made these 7 new ones. I'll see how they do and I figure a couple of them won't sell as well and I can simply take them out of circulation. Picture of my current setup and picture of the 7 new ones. Which ones do you think will be the most popular? Name your top 2. I'm taking 2 of each to the farmers market this Saturday and I'll see how they do. Iggy
  17. The blade clamp at the top looks different to me... could be a Type 1. It would be best if you ask them to snap a picture of the plate on the motor that will tell you the type and the year of manufacture.
  18. I mentioned the fact that I have several folks closely following my Hawk purchase and upcoming review and I'll be sure to mention it to Nilus (designer and co-owner) next time I speak with him. As a matter of fact I just shot off an email to him with pictures of what I make and the number I produce in a year along with the type of wood I use, etc asking him if he feels confident the Hawk can handle the workload. I explained that I've worn out 2 brand new Dewalt 788's in just 18 months. We'll see if I scare him off. LOL
  19. Hi Randy, Here is a link to an overview I wrote a while back of my cutting process But real quick... Yes, standard 1x wood from Home Depot or Lowes is fine. You want the puzzles to be able to stand up on their own. I use poplar but others use pine and some use high grade ply. Whatever you're comfortable with. I find that the puzzles are enjoyed by all ages. The dogs are particularly enjoyed by all ages of dog owners. Unicorns are admired by kids and adults as are the sea critters that I make. I have a side area at my booth with kids puzzles, dinosaurs right now, but expanding that in a couple of weeks. Iggy
  20. Tuner, and any others out there thinking of trying one, here is one I drew from one of Harvey's outlines, a free sample. Give it a try and see how you like it. If you're interested in others, I sell them for Harvey and you can see them on my website. If you see it out there, I have the pattern for it. Rescue.pdf
  21. Nicely cut. Funny side story... I actually modified that pattern from what Harvey designed originally. He had the dogs tail curling down, under and forward (which is how Whippet's tend to have their tail, "tucked")... however... it ended up looking like something other than a tail... and I didn't want people thinking I was selling dog porn puzzles.
  22. I appreciate the feedback, comments and thoughts. I'm not saying I believe everything they're saying, but I simply want to give them a chance. I like to support small businesses when I can and am willing to be patient when dealing with them. Honestly, if they were trying to hide something, they'd have simply agreed to refund my money once I sent the saw back and they'd be done with me forever. They'd be foolish to try to screw me over at this point and drag this out. I have not been terribly pleasant with them during this entire thing. I'm never crass or horrible, but I'm politely pissed and I see to it that they realize that. ;-) As I tell potential tenants in my rental house... "I'm the nicest guy in the world, until you screw with me. Do not confuse my overall kindness as weakness, you will regret it." If nothing else, you all get a front row seat for The Wild and Crazy Iggy Show...
  23. OK... well... it has not been a fun few days but I wanted to update those who are sitting on the edge of their seats wondering about the Hawk saw. After 5 weeks of waiting since the order was placed, my saw arrived this past Friday July 14th. Joy and happiness ensued. I assembled it, which meant attaching the legs and I made a couple of very brief test cuts as it was literally over 95 degrees in my garage. The saw was rather noisy and vibration was very noticeable. I didn't think much of it at the time. Saturday was farmers market and then other tasks needed to be done, so no cutting. Sunday I was able to get out there and dedicate some time. I did a few more test cuts, I grabbed one of my animal puzzles and cut a couple of the puzzle pieces to test and adjust the table and blade as needed. I got it somewhat close, but the noise and vibration was really becoming more noticeable. I double and triple checked that the legs of the saw were solid on the concrete floor in my garage, I checked for any loose parts, etc, but no luck. I then decided to just cut outlines of some of the animal puzzles so that I could get used to the saw. While cutting 4 outlines of animals, I snapped 5 blades. I figured it was my fault not installing the blades correctly and needing to get used to things. But the more I played with the speeds on the saw, the vibration and noise was beyond normal. I'd put a piece of scrap wood on the table and watch it dance across and fall off... that's not right. I emailed BM (Bushton Manufacturing) the maker/seller and provided a couple of videos that I recorded and asked that they call me Monday. Monday they called me and had me check a couple of things, but no luck. The machine is not all that complex so there are only so many things it could be and it seemed to me it was as if the motor was out of balance or something. Tuesday I call to let them know the things they had me try didn't work. They offer to send me a new motor and a couple of other parts but I tell them I'm really not interested in rebuilding their saw and we get into a bit of a "discussion" and I end up asking to simply get my money back and then into the discussion about having to crate it back up, ship it back, etc. During the discussion it is stated "Yeah, we've been having problems with the motors and controllers causing delays while we worked out the issues..." Wait... what? That's the first I'd heard about that during this entire 5 weeks and I've had half a dozen conversations during that time... So I'll admit, I got a bit pissed and said I wasn't paying squat to ship it back, etc, etc. I was told they'd have someone call me. I get an email from Nilus last night, the designer of the saw. He is apologetic, offers to send me a new saw and I can then package up this one and they will have UPS pick it up. I ask him outright if the replacement saw is likely to have the same problem now that I know of the issues they're having. He convinces me the problem occurred during shipment. There was no damage to the box, but if it gets jostled too much it throws the motor off he says, it rarely happens but they've had it happen a time or two. He says he is personally going to inspect the one they'll box up for me tomorrow and make sure it's in top working order before it leaves... So after thinking I was just going to give up and stick with my Dewalt's, I decided to let them try to win me back over. I'm guessing I'll see the new one the middle of next week and hopefully it's in top working order at which point I can provide an actual review of the saw. Sometimes I'm too nice and give people the benefit of the doubt, but I truly want this to work out and allow BM to show me how good the Hawk saws are. I may simply be the unlucky 1 out of 1000 that is having issues like this, so I don't want to tarnish the company or the saw in a lot of peoples minds. Let's see how this turns out. Cross your fingers and ask the scroll gods to be nice to me. Iggy
  24. LOL, well I'm thinking of having a wall built, my garage is a 2 1/2 car garage, literally 900 sqft and my workshop areas is in the "1/2"... I could build a wall with a door and probably be able to heat and cool it rather easily... but that's something I'll pursue down the road. By the way, the entire Hawk saw thing is a bust. I'll be providing details soon once I calm down. ;-)
  25. Beautiful work. I'll take one, my grand-daughters name is Wren.
