I am truly bragging with this post. I entered a few pieces in the open class building at the local county fair last week, and this one won the Best of Show and Judge's Choice Awards! Pretty honored that they picked one of mine.

I use whatever spray adhesive I can get, normally whatever Menards, Home Depot, or Ace is selling. I don't have any preferences on a brand, they all seem to work about the same. I spray the wood directly and after about 30 seconds apply the pattern directly to the wood. Seems to work alright. I use mineral spirits to get it off when I'm done cutting. If I've been too generous with the adhesive, it can be a bitch to get the pattern up.

I put my brand on the back all of my scroll saw pieces. Since I have a livestock brand registered here in Montana, that also allows me to use it as a registered decorative marker here in Montana. I've branded a few pieces on the front, but my irons are so big, it takes away from the look, so I do it on the back now. Haven't thought about signing them, but may have to try that out now. Haven't come up with a great solution for some of my turning pieces since they tend to be too small to brand.

My brother-in-law, a fancy table maker, finally talked me into a getting a pocket screw setup. And I'd have to admit, its one of my best buys. Not sure why I didn't bit the bullet sooner. $40 for the Kreg R3 kit on Rockler. But Roly has a great idea as well. Hope you find something that works well and minimizes your cost.

Have had this pattern by Sue Mey for a long time and finally used it. Used a piece of Russian Olive scrap. Needless to say, my wife will tell you it's not funny.

I started about 20 years ago. I took Woodworking 1 in high school and my teacher had us each do an intarsia. I ended up taking woods all 4 years and did several intarsia pieces among other wood projects. Once in college I found it easier, cheaper, and more meaningful to make Christmas and Wedding gifts instead of buying them. So I bought a Delta 40-570 and started doing some outlines and other projects as I could find plans. I've since expanded into fretwork. I still have my delta, and really like it, but am working up to something with a bigger throat. I've also branched out into other woodworking projects and recently started turning. Since I found the village I started using GiMP to make my own patterns. I've always worked full time, so it is just a hobby, but at some point, I'd like to start selling projects instead of giving them away as I do now. Tim.
