  1. Great - right now I think we will be in town that week. As you get closer to your trip and deciding your plans let me know and maybe we can work out at least meeting up at Judy's shop.
  2. Thanks for the welcome Clayton. Let me know next time you all head down south and are going to Judy's studio and perhaps I can meet you in person one of those times. I was excited to learn that I was so close to one of the great Intarsia talents - definitely makes it easier to take her classes - lot less expense since I can drive over every day and sleep in my own bed. I am signed up for the intermediate class in October and am looking forward to that. Need to get some more work done in the interim on my own. That was one reason I signed up for that class a well, to "encourage" myself to keep going and working on projects.
  3. Great looking work Bobby. As a Vol/Lady Vol fan myself, I was confident that 3rd one was our beloved coach Pat Summitt. It's a great piece in honor and memory of her. So hard to believe she was taken with such a horrible disease way too soon. I just lost my own Mom who was also a Pat in April to Alzheimer's. I know your work would be cherished by many Lady Vols and their great allegiance of fans. Thanks for sharing your work.
  4. More beautiful work Kevin. Thanks for sharing your photos. I love seeing what others can do with a scroll saw. I am always amazed at everyone's work.
  5. Love the wood and the scrolling. Clearly you married a highly intelligent woman!
  6. Looks great Kevin. I think it will be some time before I am attempting to cut an actual puzzle. Talking about needing perfect cuts! Thanks for sharing your photos.
  7. Thanks for sharing your photo. I've been thinking of maybe giving some trivets a try at some point. You did an excellent job on this one.
  8. Very nice. Thanks for sharin your photo, As anewbie to the scroll saw, this is the type of cutting that I find intimidating! Lots of intricate cutting.
  9. Looks great Dick and sure your friend will love it. I love all of Judy Gale Robert's patterns. I have a couple of her books and some of Kathy Wise that I have been working through. I took JGR's Beginner class in May and thanks to the class discount, added several of her patterns to my stash for trying. I mainly tried to stick with her beginner patterns but some I loved will have to wait on my skill level to improve. So glad to hear your daughter is getting interested and trying out Intarsia work. Tell her to come join this newbie here on the forum and she and I can learn together. Thanks for sharing your photo here.
  10. Looks great. My husband is a self teaching himself guitar. Plus I have a niece and nephew who play. Any and all of them would love something like this. I have downloaded a number of Steve Good's files into my saved pattern files to work on "someday" as I get more comfortable with my saw. I will have to see if I grabbed this one yet. His blog and files are a treasure trove to a newbie like me. I am sure your friend will love it. Thanks for sharing the photo of it.
  11. I agree, excellent work. I am in awe of the time, patience, and talent shown in this piece of art. Clearly you put your hear and soul into it. I look forward to hearing how you do with it at the fair. If you don't win, please make sure you take a pic and share of what did as I can't imagine what it would be to beat this. Thanks for sharing your work in progress and the finished project wit photos. As a newbie to the craft, I like seeing the progression and its completion. It will be quite a while before I would under take a project like this I think!
  12. Welcome from one newbie forum member to another. Unlike you however, I am relatively new to the scrollsaw. Looking forward to seeing your work.

    Hi

Welcome. I am new myself, both to the forum and the scroll saw so we can learn together!
  14. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I look forward to learning more from everyone here and sharing where and when I can. We just returned home from an Alaskan Cruise with our kiddos. It was lovely, had a great time but was ready to get home and back to my scrollsaw and sander. LOL I will as soon as the piles of laundry are done. I will also try to get some pics of what I have been working on up soon as well. Denny, I will have to try and get down and visit your shop at some point. I will probably have to wait until my kiddos return to college maybe. I have a son who will be starting his 2nd year out of state at UGA (hard on me since I am a die hard TN Vol fan LOL). Then I have a daughter who will be starting her 3rd year at a somewhat local DIII liberal arts college where she also plays on their volleyball team. He will leave to go back first week in August and she will move in and start VB the 3rd week. I look forward to getting to know everyone and learning from all of you.
  15. Wanted to introduce myself after "browsing" around for a bit. My name is Melanie. I live in the Knoxville, TN area. I am a newbie here on the forum and to the scroll saw although I bought my scroll saw a number of years ago (Dewalt 788 Type 1) when my children were young. Not much time then and I put it away. They are now in college and I have more time to learn and play (and more patience as well). I am just now getting back to learning it. At the present, I am primarily interested in Intarsia work and recently took a beginner class with Judy Gale Roberts. I was fortunate to meet several nice scrollers there including at least one fellow forum member from here, Scott, aka NC Scroller. I have a lot to learn and I appreciate all that everyone shares here, on other forums, blogs, etc. while many seem to indicate Intarsia is intimidating to them, all that "intricate" small detail work done by many with fretwork, inside cuts requiring all the holes to be drilled, etc. is what I find more intimidating. LOL I have done a few small intarsia pieces and will try to share soon. They are beginner pieces for sure but I hope to learn and grow my skill with time and patience. (patience is the hard part for me I am afraid.) I had cut several pieces out to practice my line cutting as I was having to wait on my husband to help me get my flexible drum sander and such setup for proper use to "finish" them. We finally got it setup so I can start doing all my sanding. He is a hobby wood worker himself (primarily furniture type work but his latest venture is into "turning"). That means I am now "sharing" his workshop and some of his tools. He "seems" okay with it! LOL Thanks. I look forward to learning and sharing here.
  16. Besides the jazz band one that bronx referenced above on Steve Good's blog, Steve has several with a "music" theme. You can enter "music" as search term and find many of them. While not jazz specific, several could be used or modified for use. Here are links to a couple I like. http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2016/04/smart-phone-stand-scroll-saw-pattern.html This one has a "blank" background to stand as well so you could add more specific designs related to theme. I was going to make one with just the music notes by eliminating the guitar "sides" on his design. http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2014/07/love-music-scroll-saw-pattern.html http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2016/05/music-is-my-happy-place-scroll-saw.html I look forward to seeing what you decide on trying out.
