I'm too new myself and mainly trying Intarsia work to be able to give you any real critique or feedback. however, I did want to say I thought it looked nice. Also wanted to note that I "think" that what looks a little like "burn" marks on some areas like the "head" for example is due to you "pushing" the wood too much into the blade rather then letting the blade do the cutting. I am still struggling with that sometimes myself. one thing they had me try at my Intarsia class was speeding up the speed I was cutting with and/or switching to a different blade then what they had us using "normally". both of those helped me but I still have to "think" not to push sometimes. We will both get there with practice. I haven't been able to practice any this week - getting my son ready to return to college this coming week and they were building a large coffee table and a loft bed for his room at the frat house in the workshop. Hope to get back to it this week when I get back from taking him to school.

I love the turned ones and really like your latest venture into the scroll saw. Maybe since my husband is learning turning and I the scroll saw, we can one day attempt these ourselves. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Wow John, that total is very impressive and you have done a lot of good for many people. I am sure that the Lions Club people are great fans of you and your work. Nothing can help you feel better then knowing that you are doing something you love and helping others with it. Thanks for your generous heart and spirit. While I just starting out - I was thinking a while back, it won't take long for work to start "stock piling" - this is a great way to help others, clean out the stock, and let a person keep doing the work they enjoy. The other lesson here is that over time, even small gifts/donations can add up to a lot. You have inspired me, Thank you! Kevin - Please don't dismiss your method of giving back to the world either - the happiness that your work brings to you and to those whom you give it away to (who may not be able to afford it otherwise) is no less a wonderful contribution to making the world a happier place! No price tag can be put on happiness for you or the recipients!

Hey Dick - just wanted to answer your question. The puffins pattern is one from Judy Gale Roberts. (I remembered seeing it when I took her class.) you can find it on her website here: http://intarsia.com/?s=Puffins&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&post_type=product You can buy just the pattern, or for a little more get her "classroom in a tube." That gives you the multiple copies you need and her directions. Classroom looks like it is presently on sale for a few dollars savings. I believe that a couple of years back she used this piece in her advanced class before she did the sun with a face last year. This year it is Enstein image looks like. You did a great job on yours Rick. Thanks for sharing your photo. I agree, I would put two hangers on it level with each other. You could also reach out to Judy's shop and see how they recommend doing it. I know they would be happy to help.

Very interesting turn on a bowl. Beautiful work and looks like some significant time put in on it. I like the doily too. But the lamp outshines it for sure.

Looks great Joe. I was outside enjoying the morning and the cool air that we finally have a bit of before it heats up again today. Although I think today we are suppose to get a break and only be around 89 today - first time without a mid-upper 90s day in almost two weeks. (Far from our "norm".)

Congratulations. Its always exciting to get more room for your "needs". Sounds like a win-win for everyone involved. Wife, you, and the dogs. We built the house we are in now and moved in 11 years ago this month. The "joke" in the family is that we built it for my husband's wood working shop and my "work room". Thought we had lots of space in those two rooms too - but now 11 years later - not so much it seems. The house before this one had a two car garage plus some space with one door. When he filled up his garage space and had to park outside - that was fine - when he started horning in on my garage space I said - timeout! I don't park outside in the winter months! (and our winters are not that bad!) No, I am horning in on his wood working space with my scrollsawing. So far he's sharing.

If you add the "S" then it can be done either way. It can be done with the "S" thus making it plural or that last "S" can be left off by the person cutting it and making it singular if choosing to honor only one single marine. Win/Win that way.
