That is really beautiful. Well done! Bruce
  4. I just printed out a pattern I will be using to make Christmas presents for 3 of my Grandchildren. I recalled your post so I changed the lines to a dark red in my Inkscape program. I have to agree with you. The red lines make the blade standout and the line following much easier. Thank you for your comment. Bruce
  5. “God Created Men and Sam Colt Made Them Equal!” ....... Oh, wait..... That kind of colt. Nicely done!
  6. That is very impressive, Kevin. Well done!! Bruce
  7. Not sure of the size but I suspect it would make a great Cigar humidor. Nice work turning scraps into treasure! Bruce
  8. So happy to see you "up-and-at-em" Kevin. Bruce
  9. When I was teaching my grandkids to use the scrollsaw I had them do an exercise that helped them learn to turn corners with confidence. Drill an appropriate size pilot hole for the blade you are using. Then feed the blade through the hole and get it properly tensioned. Put slight pressure on the back of the blade with the stock. Start the saw and practice rotating the stock around the pilot hole with constant, very gentle pressure on the back of the blade. It gives you a feel for the turning tight corners and gives you confidence that you can make a turn without the teeth cutting the stock. Bruce
  10. NICE! How did you do the epoxy stripe? Bruce
  11. Welcome to the Village, Martin. I used Google earth to "drive" through downtown Derbyshire. What a charming village! Your work is beautiful. Thank you for sharing and we look forward to seeing your future projects! Bruce
  12. Being normal is HIGHLY overrated. Bruce
  13. So glad to see you making sawdust and great output. Keep it up!!! Bruce
  14. Well done, Kevin. Surprising someone with an unexpected, hand made gift is salve for whatever ails you. Keep cutting, Brother! Bruce
  15. I will echo the suggestion to work with a smaller blade. I don't even stock the #12 blades. A second consideration is the saw speed. Too slow will result in chatter and too fast will make you feel out of control which can also result in chatter. Start with a speed control at roughly 1/2 speed, drop down to a #3 blade and work from there. I do most of my work with FD Ultra Reverse #1, #3, and #5. Larger blades are reserved for long mostly straight cuts on the edge of the plaques I like to make. The only fatal mistake in learning the scroll saw is fear of making mistakes. Good luck!!!! Bruce
  16. I have cut many hardwood projects in oak and even Jatoba wood (with a wood hardness/density rating roughly twice that of oak.) I have settled on the Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse and use them for all woods and projects. With the harder and more dense woods like Jatoba you work more slowly and change blades more frequently but other than that there is little difference. The biggest challenge for me is to curb my impatience and let the blade dictate the pace. Here's a project done in Jatoba: The dime will give you a feel for the size of the letters. This was cut with Flying Dutchman #1 Ultra Reverse blades and I went through 12 of them for this piece. Good luck with the oak!!! Bruce
  17. How long did it take you to reassemble your brain after cutting? That looks like a mind bending project. Well done! Bruce
  18. Very nice! Are the letters routed as well or glued in place? Bruce
  19. We are, indeed, our own worst critics and that keeps us striving for perfection. It is that instinct that produces the greatest compliment: "Sooooo, where did you get your CNC router?"
  20. Beautiful. That is a real eye catcher. Well done!
  21. Occasionally I think I need to design a "Do Something!" sign. Human inertia is a powerful thing. Glad to see your are overcoming! Bruce
  22. Okay, Kevin. Now you are making me look like a lazy piker. Seriously it is so great to see you "upright, taking nourishment and making sawdust." Keep it up. Bruce
  23. Super item. Very well done! Bruce
  24. Nice. Again, it is great to see you cutting again. Bruce
  25. Nice. The moon is especially nice. it accents the crow exceptionally well. Great Job. Bruce
