  1. That's it! Brilliant! I'll start a movement to bring back Chamber Pots for workshops. I think there is a place that sells orange 5 gallon buckets near by....
  2. So no one got the joke?? Note: This is not a drill.... Repeat...This is not a drill....
  3. I'm in the basement next to the egress window. The rug is a cast a way from somewhere to help with the cold. Basements were invented by men for man caves and workshops. Just wish mine had a bathroom...
  4. Note! This is only a drill... Repeat, this is only a drill...
  5. Thanks. The stand came from lumber I salvaged from previous projects. Had to clean some glue off and do a little sanding. The top is from two 2×6 pieces biscuit joined & glued, then run thru the thickness planer. Used (2) 3/8-16 t-nuts for the two front holes. It would have been nice if Delta made the mounting hole in the back accessible from the top, but the cord strain relief is in the way. So far it's relatively stable and vibration free. Man, there sure is a huge difference between a cheap saw & a quality saw. If I had to do it again I never would have wasted time with the cheap saw. Knowing what I know now... Thanks to all for their advice / help. I'm on my way to making much more progress now. Next project is a car for a coworker's son. Should be fun.
  6. First real project:
  7. First cut 3/4" pine with Olson Mach Speed #7R blade (8TPI 6 REV) Very little vibration with this machine throughout all speeds. So far so good.
  8. So here it is: the Delta 40-694 on the stand I just finished.
  9. It would be interesting to know what the final solution to this problem is. I am sorry for your troubles.
  10. Question for the experts: is it possible that the variable speed control, or the board, is bad? From my experience with machine tools, a faulty ground (ie. Loose ground wire, broken solder connection, etc) can cause all kinds of wierd problems. If the mechanism checks out - no loose joints, well lubed, etc, - then it may be time to start looking for a short somewhere or a bad ground wire. Just a thot. So far, the motor has been changed and a connecting rod assembly, correct? If the varible speed control had excessive dust in it, would it do this?
  11. I just received my Delta, and with it a booklet containing a complete parts list and exploded view drawings. A quick Google search reveals at least two companies that handle parts online. I searched for parts and my test parts were available. 9 service centers within 1.5 hours of me, the closest being 45 minutes. And I live in the boonies! I did all this b4 deciding to buy my saw. But I am also keeping my old saw just in case, and will probably keep looking at CL for a bargain just to use as a power file or sander. My 2 cents. https://www.ereplacementparts.com/delta-40694-variable-speed-scroll-saw-parts-c-3275_3505_418339.html
  12. Wise & true.
  13. "The best laid plans of mice & men oft go astray." My bride informed me when I arrived home tonight that the dishwasher has water in the bottom so that became job1. The saw stand will have to wait. Hopefully I can have something put together in a couple of days. So far tho the saw looks well made.
  14. Ok, this saw is much bigger & doesn't fit on my existing stand. A new stand is required.
  15. The saw came packaged in a plain brown cardboard box, neatly packed in Styrofoam. 3 layers; the table on the bottom, the saw in the middle, and the accessories in foam on top. No damage that I can see so far, but I will be looking it over good tonight.
  16. Well, I have been informed that the saw is finally here. The only think that separates us is my evening commute, -20 temps, and vicious winds. Other than that, I should be unboxing it tonight. And since I have off tomorrow, I might even get the chance to try it out! Ha!
  17. So... Now we have a choice between how many saws that are virtually identical? I count 4: Excalibur, Seyco, pegas, and Jet. Oops, and King. 5. Why? No attraction here.
  18. Currently experiencing winter storm "Beth". Deciding on whether or not to go to work. It's pretty ugly right now with blizzard conditions and over 12" of snow expected. I'm leaning toward spending time in the shop.
  19. My basement shop was about 58. I was moving around quite a bit so it wasn't so bad with a sweatshirt. Also got the computer and printer set up and printed a few pattern in prep for the new saw. All in all a productive day! (It was about 4 degrees F outside) Tomorrow we are supposed to get 12 - 16" of snow with 40 mph winds. Yikes!
  20. Yeah, we are supposed to get 12" of snow on Monday. Plus, their terminal is 1 hour away. So I'll give them until Tuesday. They have my phone number and instructions to call me if they get lost. Then, of course, Wednesday is supposed to be even colder. I just hope after bouncing around in three or four trucks it doesn't arrive broken. We'll see.
  21. Yep, problem. FedEx apparently can find my house to deliver a package addressed to someone else at a different address but not to deliver my saw. Today I got someone's package, but was told that delivery was attempted but unable to be completed due to a "bad address" which upon checking was the correct address. Translation: The driver couldn't figure out to read their gps. Perhaps their brain froze up. #smoldering Supposed to be here Tuesday now. Yeah, right. This is why we do not use FedEx at work. Ever.
  22. I was looking forward to some shop time yesterday but my new saw never showed up. Took the day off too. It was about -5F here in east central Wisconsin yesterday with a -20 windchill. FedEx blamed it on the weather, imagine that. Especially odd since we passed aFedEx truck on the way home, about 5 miles from our house! Speaking of lunch, went over to Sheboygan to have lunch with my lovely wife at our favorite Chinese place. It was excellent! Then made the trek across town to Menards to return the saw I bought last weekend. Before all that, we ran a bunch of errands, one of which included a stop at the local thrift we like a lot where I found a real bargain; 2 pair of Wrangler jeans in very good condition for $4 each. That almost never happens. The thrift store supports a local school, so I'm happy to donate and shop there. So I guess two oldsters can manage the bitter cold but FedEx cannot. Oh well, suppose I should cut them some slack, they rescheduled the delivery for today (Sat.) Stay warm out there, our polar vortex is supposed to last for a couple of weeks. Scruffydog (aka Doug)
  23. Thanks. Been waiting all day for FedEx to get here with it. Hoping there is not a problem...
  24. Travis asked me to post that my username is changed at my request. I created an account quite a while ago when I had a small business but didn't use it much. No longer wanted that old name, so I asked for the change. Thanks for your understanding.
