  1. I like how the grain helps with the look of a football. Good project!
  2. I'm not trying to brag, but there is a story to this latest project of mine that I wanted to share. Looking at the project you may recognize that the top half is a beautiful pattern done by one of our colleagues - Dan (nickname Fish) - done in 2006. I saved it and always wanted to scroll it. Then somewhere along the line I found a picture (see second picture - I'm 99% sure it's in the public domain) that made me remember the effort by Dan. When I saw the second picture my mind raced on - I just see so much symbolism in both, on many levels, and the thought of the two together was the inspiration I needed. Since I don't have the skills to make a pattern I asked Dan if would. Indeed he did, and what you see is the result. To me this is very eye-catching because of the multiple topics of symbolism expressed. So kudos to Dan for creating the patterns, and I got a real kick out of doing this project. Welcome your constructive comments.... Vin p.s. -- It is done on 1/4" Ash; I used Teak Oil to enhance the color and the grain, and finished it with a beeswax / polish combination.

  12. One way I've tried to accomplish this is by using Microsoft Word, and the options related to Word Art. It will take some practice and trial and error, but you can approximate the curve pretty well. Word allows you to see the dimensions along the side; use this to try an approximate the curve you need. Hope this helps. Vin
  13. OK - I got really excited the more I kept making things with my original scroll saw. I got a kick out of some small items that someone made - he had challenged himself to make one-a-day for a whole year, and most were fun. I made some, then had the sense to ask him if he cared if I sold them at craft fairs. To my surprise, being new to all this "copyright" idea, he answered emphatically that I should NOT sell them; that he thought of each design as copyrighted. So, I haven't made anymore, and I haven't sold any either. Right now most are mounted outside on my arbor. The attached Word document shows only four items. But about the fourth picture - I made that, gave it one of my daughters, who gave it to a friend, who has traveled about the world and taken pictures of himself holding the piece at various locations worldwide. He sent the pictures to my daughter who in turn shared them with me. So, that's my story!! Vin Early Scroll Saw Items.doc
