  1. i sell stuff in a book store... Author Author!!!!
  2. well i did not get rich!!! BUT i took in enough to pay my monetary investment for all i made. made some connections and have been invited to 2 cons. one is in a town i spent my summers in as a kid., Metropolis, Il at the 41st Superman Celebration next spring. anyway... here was my first set up.... best part is i got to spend the day with my best friend.... my wife
  3. i spot glue so that if i do not like the composition i can cut the bond and repossession the piece. then it is heavy hot glue on all seams. back front ( this hulk was the last one i made before i began putting frames on all covers) you can see the layers of the ply as parts are moved out. in most cases the exaggerates the 3D appearance. . i use 77 spray glue to put the cover on the wood. then it gets 7 coats of krylon triple thick gloss. then it is cut, glued, has the frame attached, then 7 coats of rustoleum 2X gloss spray paint. i cut the wood for the frame from 1/8" luan and use jewelry box corners to mount it.
  4. pilot holes are easy to deal with... i always drill the hole in a corner of said image and then cut from the outside of the hole. this leaves no "drill bit curve" in the background and is only noticeable on the cut piece if you know what you are looking for. it also helps that i use a 1mm drill bit. there are no spacers. it all fits together like a puzzle so i place the first piece into the puzzle only sticking out a little and spot hot glue it into place the add the next piece and repeat. when all pieces are in place the way i want i glue all the edges together. the final coating it 5 to 7 coats of high gloss clear spray paint.
  5. Have had this clock for over a year. Mix that with a scrolled portrait and the guts of a musical greeting card and you get this. VID_20181006_073311.mp4
  6. Not yet.... I choose by composition instead of subject. Thank you for the comment.
  7. before being invited to the con i had done about 4 comic books, 2 photos, and one poster. for the show i have done 34 comic books, 2 posters, and about 60 traditional scrollings. also in the pic the capt. America plays "america the beautiful" and the star wars plays the "star wars" theme and han solo's helmet lights up. i used the mechanism from some musical greeting cards.
  8. hey... i'm the one that cant drive a nail without bending it. even when i drill a guide hole... i am a nail gun kinda guy!!!
  9. you hit the nail on the head!!! if i did that more often i would spend less money on nails. 2D pictures don't show 3D well. here is the best i can do... this is my very first 3D of my best friend and his family. thank you all for the comments
  10. making a very long story short , born with dyslexia and visual processing problems , my whole life i have picked apart pictures in my mind. seen the people in front blocking that which is behind them made my eyes see "3D". hard to explain, i know! fast forward to when i began scrolling... now i can show what i see. i buy comic books that pop out to me, glue the cover to 1/2" play wood, then i cut cut each person or object then glue them back. background is what is not cut. back row is glued back poking out 1/16", next row 1/8" and so on. on the Wolverine in the picture the right knife sticks out so far that the whole 1/2" is exposed to give even more depth. hope that explains that! -chris
  11. Last batch of comic book covers for the show. Now i move to traditional cuttings. 45hrs a week at my job and 30+ hrs in the shop.
  12. as you all know i am in a tiny shop. i had to prep 14 projects and ran out of room to paint. when i am ready to paint the the finished projects i will share them. here is how i made room... it is hinged up against the tarp covering the opening to the loft of my building.... folded down i now have room when needed.
  13. the host asked me if i could do the blues borthers for him. i decided to give him a choice. these 3 are reverse . painted 2 black and one steel blue with accent colors . for this one i took one of these negatives and placed it on black poster board. i than put spray glue the cutouts and pushed then through the holes to glue them to the poster and them removed the negative. here is the result.
  14. i might be real slow to know this.... not sure if all of you know of adam savage (mythbusters) or of his youtube channel, tested. but he has incredible wealth of knowledge. i will share a video but let you know that the process can also be done with "super glue and fine sander sawdust" i also used activator. this is some plywood with a nasty void on a surface i needed to be smooooth! fill with dust and add glue then sand again... works every time. (the black line). i have also used this to replace a small corner of a blank. just use blue tape around the corner , fill void with sawdust, add glue then activator, and sand. https://youtu.be/NA2XJ7PTT3M 1 i hope this helps.
  15. in my life i have lived in 8 states, a couple of them more than once. i lived near L.A. ca. as a teen. i lived there 9 years and spent the last 8 trying to find a way out. i will take "the middle of nowhere" any day.
  16. no stores out here. 6 miles to 2 dollar generals , just depends if i turn left or right out of my driveway. 13 miles to fast food that i don't eat anymore. here is the old house it was almost 100yo when we had to tear it down with structural problems. old house blue roof (gone now)... new house black roof. my mom (in law) keeps her curtains closed so she cant see where the old house was. and here is ALL of olive... lol this is the first place u have ever lived that "feels" like home.
  17. we live on a property in a very very small township called "Olive" (12 houses and 2 churches). my wife and 78yo mother -in- law (mom) grew up here, it was owned for 80 years before i moved here by the "Rose" family. it is to honor 2 fantastic women and those that came before me. my wife got me started in scrolling... she is my rose that bares no thorns. thank you for asking marge. (that's us in my profile pic.)
  18. my wonderful son works in computers outside DC. one of his friends is a graphic designer that is giving me a BIG discount because of my son. i like it more than the one i made. i haven't paid for the logo yet so i am only posting it for my friends here for now. ( printing at office depot $10.96) (he did not include the word "arts" in this first draft but i will have one with a black background as well and that will be the next banner)
  19. Wow!!!! I would never have thought of that. Very cool. Thanks
  20. That is so cool... I am a punisher fan. How did you get the curved logo? -chris
  21. Great work on all of them. There is no rule that says that you can't keep doing what trips your trigger at the moment. I not only scroll but make masks and follow faces. The possibilities are endless. Keep doing what makes you happy. That is all i make.... It's what brings me joy. -chris
  22. I wish i had more thumbs!!!! The 2 i have to put up is not enough! Beautiful work
  23. Holy guano Batman!!!! It is taking almost all my free time to shoot for 150 projects to take and hope to sell at my first show. I can't even wrap my head around 500-600! My hope for you is to sell all you take over the 2 shows.
  24. I spent $400 on my like new 226vs. I could not be happier with it. So for my buck it is a great bang. But it all comes down the the saw's condition.
