  1. Someone at work asked me about the "Einstein"'s i made for the classrooms and asked if i could make one of, "Sam and Dean"? i replied "Who?" he told me where they were from so i said sure. turns out they were from my daughters favorite show. he then sent me a pattern made for, carving a pumpkin! into Corel i went. 20 minutes of adjustments and printed. i wasn't sure it looked right until i gave one luan to each of my girls. i must have done well!!! it is 10" x 14" and was stacked 4- 1/16" luan sandwiched between 2- 1/8" birch ply with a #3 FD spiral rev and lots of patents. i think the one on the left looks like Michael Myers....
  2. i thank you for pointing out jerry's wax paper gluing. do you weight it to dry? does that cause squeeze out?
  3. wonderful work
  4. yes, when i do a custom cut and stack i sell the extras for the same price that was paid for the order. my fear is that the client would see it cheaper where ever i might sell them.
  5. well there was plenty of space in the pattern so i used two #3 sp rev.
  6. thanks len, this was stacked 8 deep with #3 spiral rev. i delivered 2 yesterday so these were the 6 left. most of the time i put 2 or 4 pieces of 1/16" luan between 2 1/8" birch ply. but i planned to frame all of them so went with the 8 stack. when i saw the grain and knots in these 2 so i used them.
  7. very nice cutting...
  8. i choose carefully to be sure i have a smooth clear surface facing up as i stack. the 2 gems were a fluke on the back side. i love them. all of the other 6
  9. this one had wide lines so it was a #3 spiral reverse. took 2 blades.
  10. this was a custom order and the client sent me the pattern so i am sorry i do not know to whom i should give credit. i love luan. if you take your time and use a reverse blade all 8 layers are usable and fits glued in a dollar tree frame. the frame here was about 30 years old i bought in an estate sale. delivered 2 of these in matching frames and the other 6 will go in $1 frames. i had to hot glue the figure to the bottom of the frame or it would move about.
  11. the direct answer to both questions is yes. i use corel photo paint to make and adjust shading. when doing just one face , most of the time, splitting and photo shopping is not needed. when there is more than one subject, they are almost never in the same light, or if you are using a different photo for each person to make a portrait that does not exist in real life because they never posed together. thus my parents. each face was a different size in their respective picture so i made my dad's head bigger. i was not pleased with how my mom's neck turned out and it was originally stacked 8 deep but i went back and changed every one. i wish i kept a picture of the repair. in a single picture i may split the people and rejoin. my daughters were in the same picture but one face would end up darker. so i cut them apart made a pattern for each and then put them back together in a way i wanted. people recognize others mostly by the eyes and/or face shape. that is why mostly you can tell who someone is when they have dark glasses on or see just there eyes when they are wearing a ski mask. that is why no matter what i do i never change the eyes or the shape of the face. i try very hard to control the photos and only let them be the guide. for me i take the time to create the portrait i see in my head, it does not always match how the original picture looks.
  12. I have painted the edges before and it seemed to take away from the 3D so i took is back apart and sanded off the paint. I do have a Jimmy Hendrix and a Bob Marley that are like a tie dye back ground that will be painted in the opposite colors of the back ground. But it does need a light color to allow the contrast .
  13. i this is a great cutting. for me, i have found that the size of the project, eyes, and jaw line are the key. in making patterns i have been known to make 3 different patterns, 1 for each key and photoshoping the 3 together. also if you drift off your line on a curve continue the curve off the line but using the true line as a guide. i could not tell you how many times i drifted of line in this one. but you can't tell because there are no corrections until making a sharp turn, where i meet up with the line again.
  14. here is the original photo. the cropped version was part of a calendar i bought for 3Ds.
  15. this was a promotional poster/ the picture has not been altered. other than me cutting it up.
