  1. "Local library"? What's that? LOL I haven't been to a library in over 45 years!
  2. Yah, just bought a scroll book from there as well, a set of orson blades (pinned first), some temp adhesive - hopefully I'm all set for Friday when the machine gets here!
  3. Thanks Ray, I'm in NW Florida - between Pensacola and Talahassee Unfortunately patience is not one of my better traits LOL
  4. thank all, @meflick, I have a table saw (delta 36-725), drill press (craftsman), hf belt/disc sander, skill 9" band saw (sorry I bought this one but it was cheap), Kobalt miter saw, assorted drills (cordless and corded), 2 compressors with 4 air guns, assorted paint spray guns and I just ordered the Wen scroll saw from amazon for $88.
  5. I've been reading several articles that discuss "fretwork" but I've been unable to find out exactly what that is... Is that the actual cut out work, filigree etc? To me "fretwork" is related to stringed instruments. Also, I always purchase a book for each of my large power tools - recommendations for books for a newbie would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
  6. Thanks @JTTHECLOCKMAN But isn't the Ryobi not a pin less? I was told to try and get a pin less like the Wen. Thoughts? Also, I'm not worried about getting a "final" saw, I just need one to learn on and use for small projects at the moment.
  7. Thanks all, Unfortunately CL in my area is a bust - they try to sell junk at prices of new units! I watch CL often - I watch CPO more often though. I've bought a few things from CPO with no regrets so far They have a Skil currently, but I have 3 Skil tools and only one was worth the purchase - the circ.
  8. I've started researching scroll saws so would like some recommendations for a new purchase for someone who has never used one... Usage would more than likely be small items such as numbers for clocks, perhaps a few small template cutouts - nothing major or very intricate - at least not for awhile The budget is as always a major concern. I am looking at other types of machines as well, so from a price perspective, the old Porter Cable for $119 seems like a decent enough unit at the right price. However, this unit is no longer available new without the table which now has a price tag of over $200 - out of my price range of less than $125- $150. I also looked at the HF $99, but the reviews were terrible :( so I think I'm going to pass on that one. I know there are good ones for $300+ but that is way out of my budget at the moment - I see there is a Wen for sale on Amazon as well as a Skill on CPO https://www.cpooutlets.com/factory-r...efault,pd.html https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...k_ql_qh_dp_hza I'm pretty skittish about Skil stuff (isn't this low end Bosch now?) as I've purchased 3 Skil tools and only one of them is worth its salt. Thoughts and guidance requested please. I did read the review section but it wasn't a lot of help. Thanks as always in advance
  9. Will do - as soon as I figure out what that is LOL Ah just read about pin less - thanks for the head s up @Denny Knappen
  10. I was directed to this forum fortunately by someone in another and it seems this is the right place to be for everything scroll sawing. I've never used a scroll saw and have a very small budget (about $120) and currently researching low end scroll saws. I doubt I'll ever do anything major on it as I'm also not very good at woodworking in general. It's a hobby and I'm learning as best I can. Probably only cutting a few small things like clock number, maybe a few small patterns etc. I doubt I'd ever get to the point of doing anything intricate. I've read quite a few of the reviews here already, and of course the ones I'm interested in and are within budget have terrible reviews LOL Anyway, hopefully I can gleam some information about which saw I should be looking at purchasing for a new woodwork and newer still to scroll sawing. Feel free to direct me or advise me as needed Thanks in advance
