  1. Very popular around Mother's Day and Christmas. I have uploaded the pattern 4mm Hoop Pine Ply, Radiata Pine Frame stained. I used either a #2 or # 3 FDU
  2. G'day Edward, I use lacquer. Three coats with a light sanding between each does the trick. Pine will yellow, especially if in sunlight, however I find this ads a warmth to it.
  3. The density of the MDF plays a big part MdF = "Medium Density Fibreboard" However this can vary. The higher density board takes stain quite well, if it is prepared and sanded down to about 360g. Use a pigment stain, not a spirit stain and wipe it on and wipe it of. You can also condition the board by giving it a coat of shellac prior to staining,. If it is only small pieces, the average person wouldn't know it was MDF, however as others have said, larger pieces do not have the grain variation of timber.
  4. Thanks Marg, Nope, I haven't heard of one person liking the Jagger Kelly. The new one sounds like it should be pretty good, but like all things we have to wait and see.
  5. Ray, Yep. Jarrah is a large eucalypt only found in the South West of Western Australia. It's a hard wood (I do mean HAAAAARD ) It's almost impossible to find in a board of any width over about 100mm (ex 4") now as the logging is strictly controlled. All of the big timber was cut down with a lot being exported.
  6. Thanks mate. I liked the 2003 version with Heath Ledger Russell Crowe is staring in a new one being made this year. Should be good
  7. Great idea, You have me thinking now. You could do the same thing with a pattern cut from perspex. Excellent.
  8. Give it to my neighbour to compost for his veggie garden.
  9. Happy Birthday Mike

  10. Very nice cutting Innar. Hats off to you, that is some delicate work.
  11. Ray I have the timber used listed. I use a either a #3 Fd Ultra or #3 Olson Modified. I think Cheers
  12. Thank you very much Dave.
  13. A portrait of Ned Kelly. I had quite a bit of help from Jigsue with the pattern. Cut from 3mm Hoop Pine ply with a 3mm mdf backer painted mat black. Frame Radiata Pine stained. if you have a bit of time you can read all about Ned here https://cv.vic.gov.au/stories/a-diverse-state/ned-kelly/suit-of-armour-worn-by-ned-kelly/
  14. Love the Fire steamer.
  15. Thanks Jim, I popped over to the old board a couple of day's ago to join up. Buggered if I can remember my password and that email has long gone. I set up a new account under Aussie John as John B was used ;). No response yet.
  16. G'day Lorie, Like the mirror.
  17. G'day and welcome Gordon. I tend to purchase all of my scrolling bits and pieces from the US. Australia has very little in this regard.
  18. Welcome aboard Craig. If you wish to do intricate fretwork with small inside cuts you will need to use pinless blades. I had a ryobi saw many years ago and purchased a conversion kit for it and it really opened up scrolling in regards of the different work I could do. The other advantage is the variety of blade types available in plain blades. Have fun
  19. G'day Don, This is where I got the idea from. I purchased this pattern many many years ago. As a cabinet maker, end grain is a no no. I tried mitring the cnrs however I wanted to bring the 2 tone look from the tops into the boxes, so settled on the present design. https://www.thewinfieldcollection.com/product/3961/All-Scroll-Saw-Projects-Woodcraft-Patterns
