  1. That's one of the nicest clocks I've seen. I love the two timbers. The grain on the face really pops. Nice cutting too. What size is it?
  2. They are real beauts Steve. I like them all, the ones with natural timber and the coloured.
  3. Spray mine with 3 coats of lacquer. I have a spray booth set up.
  4. G'day Tod, I will have to go through my box of magazines and collected puzzles, This is one sight I found that has heaps of various types. I'm sure there is one of a snake, that holds together until you pull the peg that makes his eyes then he breaks into sections. https://diypuzzles.wordpress.com/category/mechanical-puzzles/wooden-puzzles/ https://archive.org/details/puzzlesoldnew00hoff
  5. I have a feeling they were in a scroll saw magazine.
  6. They look like heaps of fun. I have had the patterns (or Similar) in my "to Do" file for quite sometime.
  7. Nice and colourful, eye catching banner.
  8. I always jump when a blade breaks and I have broken more than my fair share over the years. What makes me jump more is when I'm lost in my scrolling with a good old Country CD playing and my wife or Grandson come into the shed and talk or touch me. I leave my boots behind
  9. G'day Ray, I find that I "guestimate" the time involved in a project. I am usually working on a number of things at once, so an accurate time is not possible, or more like I can't be bothered spending the time to time the time taken . I have found over the years that there are a number of sticking price points eg $20, $50, $70, $100, $150 etc. That is if you can price under these, good, If you have to go above you may as well go quite a bit above. EG if someone is prepared to pay $50 they will in all likelihood not baulk at $65. I use roughly $20 per hour, it's always an under estimate, as I don't factor in time taken to purchase timber, hardware or travel etc. Then I have a good look at the piece and decide the asking price. As JT has said, make notes of the prices you sell pieces for, because you can bet your life, if you take a punt as you can't remember what you sold it for previously it will come back to bight you on the behind. The main thing is to ask yourself what you want out of the work, Enough to replace materials, buy a new tool every now and again and have a beer, or do want it to supplement your income?.
  10. The sign of good tradesman is how well he hides his mistakes
  11. Thanks Scrappile, I made a 45deg jig for the table saw. Sit the box in it with the blade set to cat 6mm into the cnr and make a cut in each cnr. I then glued a feather of Jarrah into the saw cut and planed and sanded it flush with the box..
  12. Many thanks everyone for the kind remarks. I enjoyed making this box a lot. Mind you it was not without a few choice words every now and again. This was the second inlay piece for the top, the 1st I just wasn't happy with. I cut the centre of an (e) out the wrong direction, as a consequence it was to small. I cut and sanded a piece to fit but stuffed up the grain direction. This top went well with no hiccups. Once again thanks heaps
  13. They look very intricate .
  14. G'day all, Well finished the box for my Sister's birthday. It's late but better late than never Radiata Pine, Jarrah inlay, blue felt lining with blue flocking in the tray. 3 coats of lacquer, cut back with 320g between coats.
  15. Very nice, Looks fantastic. I not quite sure I'd be able cut up a record, but than again I suppose it depends on who made the record
  16. Great work and even more so for a beginner. It's nice being able to just hang around and do what you like. Well done Brenda.
  17. Good stuff Les. Nicely cut. I like that style of lettering.
  18. Nice job Kevin. We are our own hardest critics. I like it.
  19. G'day from Kalgoorlie Western Australia Brenda, You are sure to enjoy scrolling, I find it very relaxing (with the exception of those fine cuts that break away, but a few choice words fixes that ) I have not been a member of this group for long, but everybody seems keen to help out and are very friendly. Cheers John
  20. Nice ornaments. They will be treasured forever.
  21. Beaut cutting. I like the timber too. A great pattern
  22. Another 3 tissue boxes hot of the press (out of the spray booth). The patterns in these are ones that came with the basic box pattern I purchased many years ago, to see how they fitted them to the front of the boxes. Curiosity hasn't killed me yet, but it has given me few close calls
  23. Ripper job Peter, That's the beauty of doing what we do, unique presents. If I was a fisherman I'd be proud to hang that on my wall.
  24. Marg, that is super nice. Love the painting.
  25. I like the top frame as do a lot of people. Unfortunately they take quite a bit longer to knock up than a standard mitred frame. I usually frame a few cuttings, typically "Country" style cuttings with this type of frame and whack an extra $20 on the price.
