    I totally agree with what you are saying. I was impatient to get started and the clock delivery is on Sunday. I wanted to be absolutely certain of the aperture required before making the hole Hopefully I won’t regret my decision. Thanks for taking the time

    With all the help and advice on learning to use the scroll saw I decided to make a gift for my father in law today. He has been a fisherman all his life so you can imagine my delight when I found a mariner based pattern by Travis. Also it was the first time using “real” wood instead of mdf or plywood. I reduced a lump of wood on the table saw and got it as smooth and flat as I could. I have no idea what the species is The base will be from the same wood I am still making mistakes but my confidence is growing and there was a brief moment when I found myself in the groove. As soon as I started over thinking the mistakes started. I have ordered a clock from Amazon and will make the hole for it when it arrives.

    After a dismal difficulty day in the shed yesterday I had another go and with Jessica’s help we produced this from a piece of old pallet wood. She had great fun painting it.

    1: I can turn a tight corner 2: Spiral blades are not so bad 3: Thin ply is much more difficult to cut accurately. 4: Check a pattern before cutting. 5: A blade snapping is scary 6: mdf cuts well but the dust is awful 7: A smaller piece of wood is easier to cut with. 8: Hegner blade clamps are brilliant. Had a wee play this afternoon with a couple of Halloween patterns. Mainly for the curves and points. Used a spiral which snapped half way around. My first snapped blade and the noise made me jump. Fitted a flat and continued on with the witch. I used a thin bit of ply and it was difficult to hold back the blade All in all a good day.

    My little helper is Jessica. She is just over four years old and is such a switched on cookie. Having her later on in life meant I am keen on spending as much time as possible to teach her that life is fun and she can do anything she sets her mind too. No doubt in my mind that she will be scrolling soon. Her mum thinks different

    I can’t get on with the vibration to be honest. I have it bolted down onto my bench and after a wee while my eyes end up crossed

    Thanks, I have quite a few transition marks on the wood to take out. I lack the skill and confidence to turn the wood quickly and keep feeding.

    Had an afternoon in the shed having a go at letters. Still using pinned blades on my Aldi saw while I await delivery of my Hegner. Had company from my wee helper

    Hello everyone. Absolutely delighted to have found this amazing place. Already have spent hours reading so much interesting posts. I am very new to the scroll saw, I bought my first one less than a month ago. A real cheap machine that surprisingly didn’t put me off from the first go. Fell in love with the ability to shape wood and ordered a Hegner as I knew in my heart this was for me. I keep practicing as much as I can and my little daughter who is four loves choosing animal patterns and helps to sand and paint them. This I think is the ultimate reward. Seeing the joy on her face is priceless. My desire is to cut portraits. However I feel I don’t have the basic skills yet and feel reluctant to try one until I am confident of doing a reasonable job. Look forward to getting to know you all. Andy
