Being my first project of that kind , I have to improvise some technique, so here it is ! What do you think of my technique to cut the wheel? I begin by cutting all the round top of each tooth , then I cut all the left side of each tooth, then the right side to the bottom. I try other manners and I found that I was doing a better job like that . What is your technique to do that ? I will be posting the beginning of it very soon! Thanks planeur

Thanks everyone for your reply and your sympathy for my health , but everything is OK ! Before trying that, someone told me that he did it , with very little cutting material removed at each pass on the planer. And yes I have to planed 2 layers of wood to arrive at .500", the size need for my projet. And the reason I did those test with Baltic birch is that I need those 2 pieces for my future projet , a wooden gear clock , which is already in production. I will show you soon ! Baltic birch is the wood recommended for that. And I did not want to buy a 5'X5' piece only to use 12"X12", you would understand seeing the size of my basement's shop! Thanks again and sorry that you get much worry for me. planeur

Hello Kevin It is that multiplies wood . And compare to regular plywood, this Baltic birch ( here we call it " merisier russe " ), it has more layers and better quality . I did two tests and were OK. For sure we have to plane some glue.... but I have to plane a small piece as 12 X 12". And I would not plane also regular plywood, which is lest quality and layer, as those one. Have a good day planeur

Better dust collecting for my excalibur scrollsaw
planeur replied to planeur's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Well I just cut wood at the scrollsaw for one hour and ......Yes no wood dust at all , under or on the table ! And even in the small box, zero dust and wood debris ! So my modification work better than I had expected! planeur -
Fot my blue Heron , a printing store close to here did a copy of 11" X 17" ( which was not enough ), and then I used an old (but still working ) " Pentograf " a tool that I had used for enlarging a figure or drawing the size you want ( almost ) Sure you have to draw with a pencil and not having to much shaking problem......! And it work very good! planeur planeur

Better dust collecting for my excalibur scrollsaw
planeur replied to planeur's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Kevin, I was also using the port and the plastic recipient under the blade, but the plastic was broken and was not happy with the dust collecting. Now nothing seem to stay on and under the table with the test I made. planeur -
Better dust collecting for my excalibur scrollsaw
planeur replied to planeur's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Merci messieurs ! And Berry I only have to move the box a little bit when changing the blade, so no bumping ! planeur P.S. I had forgotten to tell that the box is made with 1/4 " plywood -
Hello scrollsaw pros ! To improve the original low suction under the table of my Excalibur scrollsaw, I made a small veneer box , easily removable, and hold by some magnets under the table . For the aspiration I use this nozzle connected to my Delta dust collector, which is also used for my bandsaw and column drill. https://www.leevalley.com/fr-ca/shop/outils/atelier/depoussierage/pieces-et-accessoires/30041-capteur-de-poussiere-magnetique-veritas It is fixed under the table with its 4 magnets, and that enters in the small box easily removable. The hose is 2.5' dia. int. This little box is also attached to the bottom by a small magnet as well as its front cover, which can be easily removed for a blade change! https://www.leevalley.com/fr-ca/shop/quincaillerie/aimants-de-terres-rares/aimants/circulaire/58750-ensembles-daimants-de-terres-rares-de-cuvettes-et-de-rondelles I added to the back of the box a piece of wood and plastic held in place by the same magnet as the box , to close the opening as much as possible and thus a better suction The suction tests are conclusive and a lot more than the original! No dust falls under or on the table. Now I can start my clock new project.....! planeur

Frank , I would say as Ray said , you see less the dragon in your second one and less with the bottom one dragon and also because of the wood grain showing. So I would color the dragons. If you look at some dragonfly on the web , you will see as you probably know, that their wings are often colored. And they are beautyful ! planeur
