  1. I tried using spiral blades, not much luck. Maybe it's just me but when i tried to use them they left a very rough surface which I don't like, so I gave up. Plus i can't control them like I can with regular blades. From what I see with some folks that swear by them I do see rough surfaces also. Is a rough surface normal using a spiral blade, because mine certainly were? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
  2. Lucky you
  3. There are doors on each side. You open either one if you are either left or right handed. It's a pain in the.... I just returned that scroll saw 2156-21. A disaster for me. The upper are arm would not come down far enough for me to install a blade. They basically said (after a while) I had to open something and adjust something. I said this is a brand new machine., why do I have to tear it apart and fix it. The customer service stinks. It took about 2 weeks to get them to respond and issue a pre-paid shipping label. I'm still waiting for my refund. FedX tracking says they got the saw back last week Wednesday 7/28/21. I purchased the saw on June 23rd. Never again will I buy a WEN product.
  4. What's a Polymax?
  5. I'm one of the very lucky old guys. I don't need glasses and my ear muffs are not a problem. I would also like to get one of those Fein vacs though.
  6. "I just have too loud of a vac to use it all day long, LOL" I solved that problem with a good pair of ear muffs. I can barely hear that loud Craftsman vac when I scrolling. I do have some saw dust on top of the table on my new Jet. But honestly not that much. I'm going to try and find a Y connector and hook up another small hose to vac the top. So far, not much luck finding the Y connector. I may have to investigate what's available in the plumbing section of Home Depot. This is the Micro kit I have now. I just need to find the 1 1/4" Y connector and hook it up to vac the top of my 18" Jet. https://www.amazon.com/MaximalPower-Micro-Vacuum-Cleaner-Attachment/dp/B00GMT0XKU/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=micro+vac+kit&qid=1627814506&sr=8-9
  7. Sent you a PM Kevin Ben
  8. Thanks for the tip Kevin. I'll check it out. No, the barrel clamp still allows the blade to go all the way through. At least the one I just bought from Home Depot does. I just set the barrel on the edge of the scroll saw table and insert the blade to let the table set the depth of the blade if that makes sense. Then I lightly tighten it to start. Then I use the built-in opening on each side of the saw to tighten it the rest of the way. That makes it nice for left and right handers by having it on both sides. That is one of the irritating things I had to put up with on my old RBI. To tighten the blade in the barrel you had to use the left side of the saw on the RBI. I'm right handed. I really have no problem with this saw. I do have 3 new barrel clamps on order. I'll let you and others know if they solved that problem. I agree, the hole should not go all the way through.
  9. This 18" Jet saw is a dream to use Kevin. I do have arthritis. I like the barrel clamps. I've been using the barrel clamps for nearly 30 years on my old RBI so it's not a problem with me. I just purchased 3 more extra barrel clamps for the Jet to keep loaded and ready to go. The upper clamp is really nice. It just takes seconds to change the blade. All the controls are up front. It is just a top quality saw made in Taiwan. The fit and finish is excellent. I have 2 other Jet products that are made very well. Did I mention the excellent built-in dust collection. A life saver for me. I have found one thing irritating so far. The upper arm does not stay up when you lift it. I'm guessing something just needs to be tightened a bit. I hope that's all it needs. This saw was ready to go out of the box. I just inserted the blade, squared the blade to the table and started cutting on some scrap pieces. It cut perfectly. Disclaimer - For all the top feeders on here you will not be able to use this saw in that fashion. Sorry. Ben
  10. I'm will making about 5 or so desk clocks for family members in the next few months. I'm looking for some quality clock inserts, possibly with SS backs. I have bought a few inserts in the past with plastic backs and they are hit and miss as far as the hole size recommended. Some quite cheaply made. I'm looking for clocks inserts that range from about 1 1/2" to 2 1/2". Any suggestions where I may purchase some with SS backs, or at least quality clock inserts? Thanks in advance Ben
  11. I found mine!
  12. You should get one of your kids or grand kids to show you how to copy and paste. It's really not that hard Les. I'm 81 and I learned how.
  13. Provide a link Les?
  14. Just checked my local Home Depot online today. I was looking for some poplar. I checked the price of a 1" X 10". This is what I found. 1" by 10" x 8' Poplar S4S 2-pack $139.00 That's about $8.69 a lineal foot. If you buy just one board it is over $9.00 a lineal foot. Outrageous. It's going to have to come down a lot before I pay that. I'm glad I had been buying and stocking up some wood prior to these crazy prices we see now.
  15. I have used these in the past. I cut them in half and they lasted a long time. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YZVRVTY?pd_rd_i=B07YZVRVTY&pd_rd_w=GJaaW&pf_rd_p=ee186ce0-6bf7-4893-85b9-f3368b019e0f&pd_rd_wg=8d5p1&pf_rd_r=D0E4SASAXY6DRD4V5274&pd_rd_r=2dc0a6b2-afc6-4b34-9fe5-6b38b121fc32 Earlier this year i bought a 5 pound box of rags on Amazon. That's what I'm using right now. Either one works great. https://www.amazon.com/Arkwright-LLC-White-Cleaning-T-Shirt/dp/B08FVCQ9TP/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=Box+of+rags&qid=1626841648&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzSEtPVkRPMjlYQzNDJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODY2NTQxTlRPNFUxOERQVDhYJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAyOTg4NDMzOFVNWFZUV08wUFpVJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
  16. Tack rags, tack cloth whatever. This what I use. They work just fine and I have used them for years and they never leave any residue. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001YJFYE8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  17. I sand the piece first to 220. Remove the dust with a paper towel, then a tack cloth. Apply clear shelf liner. Spray the back of the pattern, Wait a minute or 2, then apply the pattern to the shelf liner. Make sure it's smooth. .Then scroll away. When done remove the shelf liner with no problem I never have any problems using that method. Ben

  19. Very Nice. I like it a lot.
  20. My link works just fine also. Give this a try. It's the link to the clock page and more of Dirk's plans. https://theartfactory.com/product-category/patterns/clock-patterns/ I have built 3 of Dirks clocks. The Wakefield-Just finished last month The Santa Workshop clock The Train Depot clock
  21. Hi, I'm Ben Me too! "The photo should be taken in front of an uncluttered, clean, plain backdrop." Good luck with that in my shop. Most of the time I just shove things to the side when I take a picture.
  22. Sorry to hear that. There is so much Chinese junk nowadays, that I am not surprised. Your 50 cent coins must have a larger diameter than their US counterpart. I still have a few of the coin slot musical movements. I just stopped making those banks years ago.
  23. I have and have had many Makita tools in the last 25 or so years. I have found them to be excellent quality. I finally wore out my 25 year old Makita saber saw. You might want to give them a look. Ben
  24. Excellent. I really like it Denny. Reminds me of the children's banks I used to make 25 or so years ago. I still have some of those oval lexan side plates I purchased from Meisel Hardware. I installed a musical bank slot movement in mine. It played a tune every time you dropped a coin in it. Unfortunately, they are no longer available. The kids loved those banks.
