  1. Very nice Frank
  2. Welcome to the village from SE Michigan. We're here to help if you need it.
  3. As a former close friend of alcohol, I understand perfectly. It's been nearly 13 years( since I had a drink or cigarette. I often wonder how my life would have been all those years without booze and cigarettes. I'm 81 and paying for those mistakes now. Quite painful I might add. It's never to late to quit a bad habit.
  4. Welcome to SSV. You're going to like it here. Lots of knowledgeable, friendly people to help you. Just ask away. Pegas scroll saws and Pegas scroll saw blades seem to be the most popular at this time. I'm an Olson fan myself. But that's just me and what I'm used to after 50 years plus of scrolling. Good luck Ben
  5. I really like them. Excellent As a veteran myself I try to give as much as I can throughout the year to various veteran organizations. One of my favorites is "Wounded Warrior Project" https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate
  6. Thanks Karl. I have seen them and thought I could use one myself. I'll take a closer look. Not sure what I would do if I have to give up my woodworking hobby. I'm pretty much housebound now. Mother Nature has not been kind to me.
  7. Nice job Frank. Looks good. Now you can spend more time in the shop and turn out more of your quality projects.
  8. After reading all of the above I am so glad I have a basement where my shop is located. It is approx. 14' x 30'. I have central air also. Not bragging, it was aready installed when i bought my home 35 years ago. I have upgraded it with a new high effiency gas furnace and central air the last 5 years or so for the 2nd and last time. Tosty warm in the winter and cool in the summer here in SE MI. Yes. we need air conditioning here in the frozen north. But honestly, I wish I had a seperate shop somewhere in my yard. I can hardly make it up and down those darn, steep stairs anymore.
  9. Awesome Just watched Delta Force for the umteenth time yesterday.
  10. I switched to that just recently and I works great. A bit pricy though. I can only find it online right now.
  11. I sent an email to Mikes and asked where the drill bits were made? They emailed me back and tolld me the same company that makes the Flying Dutchman blades in Germany.
  12. There in fact may be better drill bits out there., I really don't know. But, I don't scroll cut or drill thousands holes for a living. Mikes drill bits work perfectly fine for me with what little use they get from me. I never experienced dull bits. Maybe you got a bad batch. Most everything that i drill now I use a 1/16" drill bit. Somestimes smaller. I rarelty do tiny hole fretwork. No patience
  13. Not really sure what you were reading Les. But this is on their web site. "Industrial-quality, high-speed precision drill bits. For your scroll saw needs—larger bits for normal cutouts, smaller bits for "hidden holes," veining, and intricate cutting. Each packet contains 10 bits." It's $7.25 for a packet of 10 drill bits, plus free shipping. I have bought Flying Dutchman scroll saw blades and drill bits many times through the years from Mikes and have never been disappointed. Ben
  14. Mikes Workshop - Flying Dutchman drill bits Free Shipping https://mikesworkshop.com/collections/accessories/products/1-16 I use the largest bit that will work.
  15. Excellent scrolling. I really like that pattern. The results are beautiful. I can only scroll about 2/3 hours anymore before my eyes start to blur. I usually just quit for the day and start again the next day. Sometimes I don't get back to it for days as I get sidetracked with something else. It eventually gets done. I really never know how long, how many holes, or blades it takes. Also, I really don't do a lot of fretwork. I'm mostly into Intarsia and there really isnt that many holes to drill. I rarely break any blades when I do Intarsia either. I'm in awe of you folks that can sit there and drill hundreds of holes and constantly keep threading those little blades like a 2/0 through those tiny little holes. I just don't have the patience for that. But I sure like to see the finished pieces. Some are really beautiful. I'm working on a clock right now that has many holes. But I can use a 1/16" drill bit or larger if i choose for most of the holes. That makes it's much easier for me to see and cut.
  16. Looks like me most of the time! I'm a dozer. Great job.
  17. I was a member of SSV quite a few years ago then i got really sick. Allmost didn't make it. Heart problems with quad bypass took a toll on me. COPD doesn't help either. It took me quite a while to recuperate and I didn't participat on here or anywhere for a few years. In fact, I lost my ID and password and just decided to re-sign up as a newbie. I really enjoy my time here. Lots of really nice friendly people. I don't do facebook, instagram, or any other social networks. I did sign up to 2 other woodworking forums, but i really never go there. I do hang around here almost daily. Even after all these years (over 50) of woodworking and scrolling I seem to learn something new here every once in a while at SSV. Thanks everyone and Travis for providing this forum.
  18. I agree with Marg. Although Paul had a couple of songs I liked. after they broke up. Excellent job of cutting. Looks just like them back in my day.
  19. Hi Rolf No, it is a quartz pendulum movement. I had it hanging in my workshop and it accumulated some dust that i didn't like, I have since moved it upstairs. I just took the movement out and vacuumed the inside and outside. It should stay a lttle cleaner up here. As I said previously, I make stuff for myself, (I like the challenge) family, and friends. Most of the time a family member or friend will notice something I made or they have seen and ask if i could make one for them. I'm a pushover. I'm planning on making 2 more fretwork clocks, then thats it. I'll stick to my Intarsia or some smaller fretwork projects. Maybe this type of fretwork will come back around some day. Probably not in my lifetime though. Thanks for the compliment. Ben
  20. I really don't know anything about selling these types of clocks. I make them for fun for myself, family, or friends. In fact, everything I make is for fun. Ben
  21. As a 4 year CG Veteran myself, I appreciate the recognition and really like it.
  22. Excellent!
  23. Here is neat little clock I finished about 2 months ago. I forgot to post it here. I made it from walnut and maple.I took the clock movement out to clean and vacuum it. I'll put it back together later today after I clean it. It has a neat little pendulum bob I made. I used 1/16". 1/4". and 3/8" wood. Mostly cut with an Olson 2/0 reverse tooth blade. It is called the "Black Forest Clock from Wildwood on the Cherry Tree web site. It has little critters scattered about. It is only about 18/19 inches high. I had fun making it.
  24. I have been using Deft satin lacquer spray for the last year or 2. Works great for me especially on my fretwork or scroll saw work. Gets in all the nooks and crannies. Dries very fast and you can apply many coats in a day. Stinks, so wear a mask if you decide to use it. I spray light coats. You will need at least 3 coats. Give it a try. This is what I use, https://www.acehardware.com/departments/paint-and-supplies/stains-and-finishes/lacquer/1198209
