  1. So here is the next cut for my “Lion Project” it had to be reduced quite a bit to fit into the greater plan. It was also not a free standing pattern I got Russ’s approval to modify the pattern to be free standing, have not done this before it was all free hand drawing on the pattern. Difficult cut due to the reduced size but when you see the whole project completed you will understand my insanity. Cut with a #1 Niqua straight pin less blade. Soaked in Danish Oil drained and excess wiped off. Ready now for detailing. At the end of the day very hay with the final result.
  2. So I’m about to complete the next part of many for this 3D project I’m doing. I had to reduce the size of the original image by quite a bit to make it fit into the overall project its positioning is very important. But I’ve hit a little snag the pattern is not free standing portrait of the Buffalo so I need to make a few changes to the outside cut of the pattern. I would appreciate it if any of the members experienced in pattern design can mark up in a colored pen how I should go about it, because there a few bridges that have to be considered. Due to the reduction in size this was a difficult cut, so I don’t want to mess it up know, I’ve kind of drawn it up as to how to do it but I don’t think it’s the perfect solution hence I’m asking for some help. The Buffalo was cut with a #1 Niqua straight blade.
  3. Scrappile, if I get it right I think it’s going to look great, I’ve drawn it out on paper as to how I think it should be, which I use as a reference and keep me honest and motivated.
  4. Yip the Insane Dust Maker ( Don Bedggood) is at it again, had to get the right size and keep everything in proportion on this one which makes it harder to cut because of the reduced size, but you will understand my madness when all the animals are cut and added to the Lion in a 3D arrangement. I will have to make changes to the outer cutting of the pattern because there must be no wood back round visible just the Buffalo profile.
  5. Dennis I think you have a fabulous job here, great parents and I like your finishing.
  6. Fantastic cut, beautifully finished, well Done!
  7. Thank you to all for your great comments, it’s truly appreciated. It inspires me to do even better. God Bless
  8. Sadly you have never seen the beautiful creatures in the wild; I on the other hand have seen hundreds of times in just about every game reserve in this country taken hundreds of photos of them. They generally lay around during the day except for when the have to go and out and hunt for a kill, which the females do and then the make has first dibs at the kill.
  9. My latest cut is a Russ Beard pattern, this has been soaked in Danish Oil, it has to be detailed. This is going to be the Centre piece, there will be animals in front of him and behind him. This is going to be a big 3D project once completed which I estimate is about two to three months away. I’m in no rush and take my time. Cut using 4mm Baltic Birch Ply, the complete pattern was cut with #1 Flying Dutchman Blades
  10. Tom, maybe I did not explain this properly, the are going to be three different cuttings all equal in size, the out of focus photo and backer board is going to be about 1000mm x 800mm. All these cuttings are going to be glued together with either a 4 or 6mm ply wood spacer, these will the be stuck onto the photo, and then framed so you will have some of the photo visible around the whole all the cuttings.
  11. So I have this beautiful Russ Beard Lion that I have started cutting, my idea is this is going to be the Centre piece, in front of this will be another animal and the behind the Lion will be another so in fact it will be a three layered project. Bring a ex photographer the back round is going to be and out of focus shot of the typical African Savanna with maybe some blue sky on the top. So here’s my question as can be seen from this pattern Russ let’s you cut through the board at the bottom and a bit on the sides, this would not matter if you were framing it, there’s going to be a front layer with a animal either in on the left or right side. Now would it matter if some of the black backer is can be seen at the bottom of the cut, because this will all be attached the the out of focus backing board.
  12. Sorry I meant Hudson on my reply not Rick, not showing any respect for your name, very sorry for that.
  13. Hi Rick, It’s available on Botas Helder ESTY site, if you don’t find it thre you may have to contact him and ask him for it, he is quite generous.
  14. Sorry there were two items that should not have been included, I struggle a bit with the postings, sorry for the confusion it comes with age.

  15. So as Easter 2023 draws to a close I am giving all my the following cuttings away, I giving them away frameless as everybody has their own thoughts on frame and back board. Each cutting is supplied with a certificate that it is a Authentic Hand Crafted item and is one of a kind
  16. A few weeks ago I asked my scroll saw friends here for dimensions of the slot for the blade, for my new table I was making for my highly modified Martlet (Wen), if my memory serves me correctly and please I my be wrong but I think it was Bradford Lock who sent me a few photos with a digital caliper so I could get the measurements. Thank you do much, been using a a week or two now and it perfect thanks once again. I have started work on a very complex project which I estimate will take three to four months to complete, I hear you asking yourselves why so long, well we only have power five hours a day so in that five hours I have to everything normal people would do in 8 hours or more depending on you hemisphere, so at best I can squeeze in maybe on a good day about 2 hours of scrolling, it’s been like that for months and there’s no end in sight, why you ask, simple our corrupt government has stolen all the forgiven aid for self enrichment and now there’s no money for maintenance.
  17. Marg between my son and myself we have about 25000 photo taken in the various game reserves here in South Africa, we watched all the game including the Big Five numerous times, witnessed kills by prides of lion, the most spectacular experience is seeing the Cheetah at full speed 70kmh, with his tail straight up in the air to act as a rudder, oh so many time so many memories, and the Rhino, and Elephants are been killed daily, so sad to see that, we at least have seen so many times it will never be forgotten.
  18. Thank you for your great comments, it’s truly appreciated.
  19. Dick thank you for your kind words, I truly appreciate it.
  20. Frank the are Imported Peterboro Board I think from the UK not sure, it’s a cream textured board, I’m afraid the iPhone camera just does not do them Justice.
  21. It’s a Black Epoxy Stain that’s made locally in South Africa it’s a water proof sealant that can be used indoors or out doors and is a water based product, first time trying it, happy with the end result.
  22. Took a week off from scroll sawing to make frames that I have been putting off doing. The Leopard and the Cheetah is Russ Beard Patterns ( the Cheetah is from my own stock of photos staying in South Africa I visited various Wildlife Park two to three times a year and built up quite a stock, I sent the Cheetah to Russ and he was kind enough to make a pattern for me.) the Dragon is also a Russ Beard pattern from the series The Game of Thrones. With the wildlife cuts I stuck to the Shou Sugi Ban techniques because it’s part of Africa. The Dragon frame is a Black epoxy Stain that came out quite well, all in all I’m happy with all of them, cut on 1/8” Baltic Birch Plywood.
  23. My “Wen” is so modified it has stainless steel blade bracket, I re-engineered the pin less blade holder and so much more same site table as most of the big saw have got took the dimensions of the Pegasus, Seyco and deWalt and came up with a happy medium size.
  24. As I use a highly modified Wen I cut slower than you guys and also we don’t have a good blade choice, but in terms of time I estimated it took me about 40 hours, I don’t rush just one hole at a time.
