  1. I have been collecting different woods for about 35 years. I was a logger for 17 years. All told I probably have 10-20 thousand dollars' worth of wood stuck back. My family has sawmill that I get my local hardwoods and when I travel, I look up and visit people with sawmills. I also visit different wood stores in my travels. Luckily for me, I also have a friend that has a local woodwork store that stocks exotic woods. Whenever I go to east Tennesse I always visit Jeffries Wood Works and buy a load as well. Never can have too much wood.
  2. Another photo of the island cove intarsia piece that I recently finished. It was presented to its owner this last Thursday 6/29/23. The original design came from Bruce Worthington and I changed it some to get the look I wanted. Since I've had numerous people ask what woods I used, I thought I would post it again with a list. 1. African padauk- Red top half of background 2. Cherry-Brown lower half of background and frame 3. Western red cedar-Different shades for beach, background behind trees, sailboat mast and around top of boat. 4. Walnut-Palm trees and shadow inside boat. 5. Maple-Refection of boat in water. 6. Beetle killed pine-Water 7. Poplar-Different shades for vegetation around base of trees. 8. Catalpa-Palm fronds. 9. Spalted hickory-Gathering storm clouds 10. Aspen-Sail and body of boat.
  3. Another one of my color filled shield eagles that I cut from cherry. I filled this one with purple resin. It’s looks bluer in the photo.
  4. Thank y'all!!!
  5. My newest Tree of Life. Cut from 1/2 inch cherry. It went to it's owner Friday.
  6. One of my newest Intarsia pieces. A Bruce Worthington design that I changed up some. 9 different woods, all natural colors.
  7. I've been a scroller for 38 years. I've had plenty of minor cuts, but you would have to be really dedicated to lose a finger on a scrollsaw, lol
  8. I've been using the table top
  9. Looks great! That came out a lot better than my first attempt.
  10. It's no where near perfect. I tell people that my woodwork is like my ex-wife. It looks better in photos......................
  11. I use a cheap hair dryer and pour 1/2 inch. Haven't tried any deeper than that. I have used a torch in the past and got the resin too hot and it dried and split in places. It's important to have a dryer on your air compressor so no moisture gets into your cuttings.
  12. I live in Fort Smith Arkansas. Here's a tutorial I recently posted.
  13. Thank you!
  14. Just planed down the newest Tree of Life. This one is a custom order and made from cherry with a dark green and gold color fill. I'll start the sanding and finishing later this week.
  15. A couple of photos inside my cluttered shop
  16. Your fretwork and your plates look awesome! Hope having both in the same photo won't get you in trouble with the photo police...............
  17. Thank you Marg!
  18. Back when I was doing a lot more scrolling than I am now, some of my designs were featured in a few magazines now and then. Some of the readers saw a couple of old license plates on my wall in the photos that were in the articles that I wrote and started sending me old plates that they had. Now I have plates from every state and several other countries displayed in my shop. My oldest is a 1910 from Pennsylvania. When I have vistors stop by they always enjoy seeing them.
