  1. I had that in the back of my mind. I was going down the road of putting a sunken hanger on the back so it could be dual purpose but the pattern sort of complicated that idea.
  2. I was given the pattern by a friend to cut for him. I’ll ask him where he got it from.
  3. Funny how plans change as you move through a project. A wall hanging that started life meaning to be a table trivet but is a little fragile for the purpose so what does one do? Put a hanger on it and there you go. A wall hanging.
  4. Stunning.
  5. The pattern came from Shutterstock. As you say the simplicity makes it. The wood was a bonus.
  6. It’s a trivet. 6”. As a trial I have finished it with lemon oil. Sort of hoping it will release a lemon scent when you place something warm on it. I never considered it as a wall hanging so I thank you for the idea for the next generation of this.
  7. Cut out of Rimu rescued from a building site
  8. Aye aye. Very well done.
  9. Trust me. The red suits her very well. Very principled with a real mischievous streak.
  10. That’s perfection in every aspect.
  11. Thanks Jerry. They are more fun to cut if you “interesting” people to cut.
  12. I remember taking this photo and thinking it was a bit of a dud at the time. But not so long ago I took another look and this is what I ended up with.
  13. Wonderful cutting. ‘I’m always pleased to see these old soldiers honoured. One has to remember that they were young men with the rest of their lives ahead of them when they served. No matter what country they fought for they were mostly a common man that was often conscripted to suffer the horrors of wars
  14. Thanks. He loved it even though he pretended not to in his normal gruff way. he had no idea I was making it and had never seen the photo that created the pattern.
  15. Thanks. Living in a small town here in New Zealand scrap timber is often the only way to get any wood apart from pine. And that costs a arm and leg.
  16. I have been meaning to cut this for a long time. made out of a old drawer bottom and the frame from a salvaged bora ridden oak table that still had some sound wood left.
  17. Welcome from New Zealand to one of the best and most helpful places ever. Your work gives me something to aim for. Brilliant cutting.
  18. Thanks, I’m going to doing this from now on. A time saver.
  19. My word Charlie, your choice of wood is impeccable for your tribute. The grain works for the waves and sand. So much love put into it.
  20. Condolences Charlie. The plaque is such a beautiful tribute.
  21. As soon as I saw it, it became a must do. Great pattern so thank you very much for allowing us to cut it.
  22. Thanks, I lost track of where I got it from.
  23. I’m quite enjoying this art form . A lot different from all the toy making I usually do. More challenging in lots of way specially patience. as normal with me it’s all recycled wood.
  24. My father was a Blacksmith. He started his apprenticeship when aged 14 and worked until aged 65. A kind hearted man with a will as strong as the iron he worked. He had five sons and to his disappointment only one followed in his footsteps. I was’t the one as I went to sea when I was 15 and since then have worked countless (over 30) different jobs in different countries. as per usual I used all recycled wood.
