Two Truths & A Lie:

Quote:

  1. In my neck of the woods (Vancouver, WA), temps got to 114 degrees last weekend, which is an all time high. Holy schnikes, that's hot! If I was smart, I would have head to the beach to cool off. Well, since hindsight is 2020, how about we throw our own beach party? This month's scroll saw challenge is enjoying the beach. Post your beach, coastal, nautical, or fun in the water projects! Tell us a little something about the project, like who you made it for, or why, or a story behind it. I really enjoy the stories behind projects. It will be fun to see what y'all come up with.
  2. One of the things I think about in August is the car shows. In my hometown, there would be a few official ones, which were fun. But there are also the pop-up shows that just appear at a restaurant parking lot on a Sunday afternoon. Usually some car club that meets up at a 50's diner, grab a burger, and then shows off their cars. I'd see one of those, pull over to look at the "fancy cars" (as my son called them). I kinda miss that this year. So how about we have our own car show? Post a pic of a scroll saw project featuring some sort of car, motorcycle, truck, military vehicle, bicycle, skateboard, or whatever. As long as it has wheels! Looking for some inspiration? Check out our Transportation section in the Pattern Library. When you post, share a memory of a vehicle you loved. My first car was a 1983 Silver Camaro. It was only a V6, but it looked fast. And a highschooler with a Camero wasn't a bad thing to have. We have a ton of great car patterns in the Pattern Library: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/category/19-transportation/
  3. This month's challenge is about fun and games. Post your game or puzzle projects here! Have you made a game? Chess, checkers, cribbage, or some other game? How about puzzles? Jigsaw puzzles, free-standing puzzles, mind teaser puzzles? Post those here. I love games and puzzles. I can't wait to see them.
  4. March: Will it be "In Like A Lion and Out Like A Lamb?" Or will it be "In Like a Lamb and Out Like A Lion?" Regardless, this month scroll saw challenge is about big cats. A popular genre in scroll sawing, so it's time to show them off. Or maybe King of the Jungle cats aren't your thing? Post the King of the House instead with kittens and cat projects. That's what the internet is for, right? Cat pictures? Can't wait to see what you come up with.
  5. SuperB0wl Weekend is coming up! So this month's scroll saw challenge is about celebrating sports! Any kind of sport: football, basketball, lacrosse, badminton, curling, competitive pie eating.....whatever. Post your sports related projects. When you post, tell us who you made it for. Are you a player? A fan? The stories behind the project is what makes it special.
  6. Even through these weird times, Spring is still my favorite season. I love having my garage door open with the nice cool air. Chirping of the birds and fresh cut lawn fill the air. This month's scroll saw challenge is a celebration of Spring. Post your spring themed scroll saw projects. Birds, flowers, scenic projects, or whatever spring means to you. While you're at it, let us know what you're doing to enjoy the springtime during the lockdown.
  7. Our last scroll saw challenge, it was fun to see where we started and where we are now. It was a great reminder that we were all newbies once-upon-a-time. Anytime we start a new hobby, it is super easy to get overwhelmed and we don't know where to begin. So, this month's challenge is about helping our new friends get into the hobby of scroll sawing. What did you you wish you knew when you were getting started? It can be a tip, a recommendation, a guide, reference, videos, inspirational story, or whatever. This is for folks who are new to scrolling. So be as descriptive and helpful as you can. Bonus points for illustrations/pictures....double extra points for a video demonstrating what you're talking about.
  8. This month's scroll saw challenge is about seeing how far we've come in our hobby. Post a picture of your first project, and a picture of your most recent project. This isn't about poking fun at where we began, but rather to celebrate how far we've come. And when you post, let us know how you discovered scroll sawing. It will be fun to see where we all got our start and where we are now.
  9. This month's scroll saw challenge should be an easy one. Us scrollers can't resist making gifts for others. So this month's challenge is to post a pic of a gift you made for Christmas. Tell us who it's for, why they might like it, or a little story behind the project. I always like the stories behind the cool projects y'all make.
  10. Autumn is certainly here. Leaves are dropping, the air is cool and the sun is low on the horizon. Some folks are getting snowed on. November always has me appreciating the change of seasons. Remembering the summer days, and looking forward to the Holidays ahead. This month, our scroll saw challenge is themed, Autumn. Post your scroll saw projects that say autumn to you. Is it potpourri boxes, candle holders, leaf trivets? Get creative. And when you post, tell us a little about it. I really enjoy the stories behind the projects. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
  11. It's October! Time to pull out my Halloween decorations. Not sure how Halloween is going to play out this year, which makes me a little sad for the kids. But at least I can decorate the house. This month's theme is October. It can be Halloween, fall, harvest, pumpkins, Green Day or whatever you think of. Have fun with it!
  12. Howdy All. The calendar tells me it's spring, but the weather doesn't seem to agree. Regardless, it's time to get into the shop! I know I love seeing shop pics. I don't know what it is about them. I just love seeing how other people work. So, this month's challenge is to share pictures of your shop...mess and all. Share a pic of your workshop. Multiple pics are encouraged. Or, if you're so inclined, h'bout a shop tour video!? It doesn't have to be fancy. When you post, tell us a little something about it. What you like or don't like about the shop? What improvements would you like to make? What kind of work do you typically do? Any unique setups that make your work easier? I think this will be a fun challenge. I can't wait to peek inside your world. Have Fun!
  13. These are strange times, indeed. Stay-at-home orders have been issued around the world as they try to wrangle this pandemic. I had to get myself and my team to work remotely, which was no easy task. Non-essential offices, stores, and services have shuttered their doors. Now we're at home hunkering down with some time on our hands. Luckily, as scrollers, we have no shortage of projects. So, what have you been doing with your time at home? Post your Lockdown Projects. While we usually ask for scroll saw projects, I'm going to open this to whatever project you have going during your home quarantine. Scroll saw project, home improvement, cooking, exercise....it don't matter. Show off what you're working on. Also, post a nice thing that happened to you this week. I'd like to see some happy news.
  14. Howdy All. It's been a brutal winter, and I'm itching to get things done. I've been focusing on organizing the house and shop, lately. So I thought it would be fun to do some organizing projects. This month's scroll saw challenge is called Boxes, Bowls, & Trays. Basically, any kind of vessel, which could also include vases and other holders. Post a pic of boxes, trays, bowls, vases, pencil holders, totes, caddies, or whatever else you made to hold or organize stuff. It doesn't have to be completely done with a scroll saw, but a scroll saw should be involved in some way. Be sure to tell us a little about your project and what it was used for, or any other story that comes with the project (I love the story behind the project just as much as I like the project). Have fun! I can't wait to see what you come up with.
  15. Is it summer yet? I can't tell because of the weather. But that doesn't stop me form firing up the grill! This month's challenge is about BBQ season! Post your projects that are related to outdoor cooking and dining! Signs, cutting boards, condiment holders, napkin rings, paper towel holders, grill scrapers, drink holders, or whatever! And while you're at it, tell us some of your favorite things to cook outdoors? Better yet, have a recipe to share? I wanna see them! Lets turn this into an epic BBQ thread. Pass the sauce!
  16. This scroll saw challenge should be an easy one. Share a pic of your scroll sawn gifts this Holiday season! There's nothing more special than a handmade gift. It could be a gift for family, friends, coworkers, or stuff you sell at Holiday craft shows! While we love to see your projects, it's the stories behind the project that makes it special. So tell us a little bit about it. From your saw, to under the tree, I can't wait to see what you made this Holiday season.
  17. Whenever I think of November, I think of farms and their harvest, and the ranchers getting things ready for the winter ahead. I think of apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and tractors plowing the fields. So this month, our scroll saw challenge is about the farmer. It's open to your own interpretation. What does it mean to you? Do you think of the animals, old tractors, beat up ol' trucks, old barns, farm house decor, or a lazy Sunday afternoon fishing at the creek? Post a project with that theme. Did you grow up on a farm? If so, let us know when you post a picture of your project, and tell us a little about it. I look forward to seeing what y'all come up with. And while you think about it, I'll leave you with song.
  18. This scroll saw challenge is an easy one! Post a Holiday project! Ornaments for your tree, gift for a loved one, or decorations for your house. Whatever! While we love to see your projects, it's the stories behind the project that makes it special. So tell us a little bit about it. I can't wait to see what's on your saw this Holiday season.
  19. My son and I just got back from a week-long Boy Scout camp in Coeur d'Alene, ID. It was such a beautiful lake with amazing scenery. One of our fellow scouters extended their trip to Glacier National Park with their family. They posted some great pictures, too. This time of year always reminds me of family vacations, camping, fishing, and enjoying the great outdoors. So, this month's challenge is about the great outdoors, scenic vistas, or appreciating the great things mother nature has provided us. Post a picture of a project or pattern of what that means to you. And be sure to tell us a little bit about it, or a memory you had with your family vacations.
  20. This month, it's an easy one. Post your first project of 2019! "Out with the old, in with the new,"as they say. We don't want to see what you made last year; we want to see what you made in 2019. Fresh off the saw. When you post, tell us a little about it. Who did you made it for and for what reason? Or maybe a little backstory. Projects are nice to see, but it's the story that goes with it that makes it special. Here's to a productive 2019!
  21. Summer vacations are over. Kids are back in school. And that means back to work, too. So this month's challenge is about the office. Make something for your home office, or your workplace. This can be anything office-like projects: pencil holders, bill organizers, clipboards, headphone stands, trays or organizers, or a nameplate for your desk or wall. Let your imagination run wild. When you post a picture, tell us what you do for a living. If you're retired, tell us what you used to do! Woodworkers come from all walks of life. It'll be fun to see what professions we all have or had.
  22. Here's a fun scroll saw challenge recommended by @wombatie Everybody was a beginner at some point. We all had to start somewhere, right? So in this scroll saw challenge, post a pic of your first project. If you don't have a pic available, post one of your earliest ones you've done. Share with us your thoughts about your progress and how you've grown in your hobby. Maybe offer a word of encouragement for those new to the hobby. It'll be fun to see where we all started and remember our scroll sawing genesis.
  23. It's starting to feel like summer! So this month's challenge is Summertime Fun! Post a project that screams summertime! What does summer mean to you? Does it mean backyard grilling and picnics? Splashing around at the local swimming hole? Trip to the beach, or some camping in the mountains? Grandkids coming for a visit? Or maybe you're going to hit the road for a nice vacation. Post your summertime scroll saw projects and tell us a little bit about your project and why you made it. I love the stories behind the project.
  24. Ahh....summer is upon us. Let's make something for Dad. This month's challenge is making something Dads like. Is it BBQ gear, a cool beer caddy, a portrait of a fancy car, or a sign for his man cave? Post a picture of a project that would make him smile. When you do, mention who it's for and why you made it. We love the stores behind the projects.
  25. Spring is in the air! This is my favorite time of the year. I can open the garage door to my shop and enjoy the weather. This month's challenge is a celebration of spring! Post your spring-themed project such as flowers, butterflies, birds, or whatever brings fond memories of this time of year. Be sure to tell us a little something about your project too. We enjoy the stories behind the project as much as the project itself. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
