Firedkm Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 I am always making puzzles for my mother to put together. She is my guinea pig before I sell the puzzle to the public. I have decided to give her a very hard puzzle to do. I have come up with a 3 layer jigsaw puzzle. All the puzzle pieces will the same color so she will not be able to tell what goes where! Hear is the pattern I came up with. It is a eight sided puzzle just like a stop sign. You will also notice another "stop sign" in the center of the pattern. That is just a guideline for me when cutting out the pieces freehand. The puzzle is six inches across and I am using 1/4" BBply. I also have each layer stepped out as it goes up. This was the only way I could think of to make all the layers accessible. Here is the layers cut to shape. I used a fdur#7 blade for this. I thought this would help me me keep the lines straight. Unlike my other jigsaw puzzles I had to drill a small starter hole so I could cut the inside into pieces. I used a # 63 drill bit because that was the smallest I had on hand. I really should have used a # 71. I am also using a FD Superior Puzzle blade. This is a picture of the first layer cut. I ended up with 12 pieces on this layer. More to come as I progress Quote
Firedkm Posted November 11, 2009 Author Report Posted November 11, 2009 Ok I got some more cut out. This is the second layer of the puzzle. This picture is showing you how I used the "stop sign" as a guide line. Here it is separate from the the side. This layer has 17 pieces Quote
grampa Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 It takes me all my time to do my 6 year old granddaughters puzzles, I think this one would tip me over the edge. Great work and hope it sells well when finnished.....Paul Quote
Travis Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 I really like how this is coming together. I can't wait to see the finished project! Quote
wood-n-things Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 So Dale are the outside edges all the same dimension? Will all 3 layers plus the bottom be glued together. What happened to layer #2? Looks very intriguing... Quote
Firedkm Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 Mike, Yes the outside edges are the same and all the layers will be glued together. I will be posting more pictures later today. I am trying to get a humming bird pattern just right for a customer Quote
wood-n-things Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Small flippin world-- me too...I shipped one and now I've cut out a 2nd one a little different style and it cut really well. Thank YOU! It stands up so much better... Quote
Firedkm Posted November 13, 2009 Author Report Posted November 13, 2009 Here is the glue up of the puzzle. Here you will notice how I stepped the layers up to make it easier to put the puzzle together. The 3 layers of pieces. There are a total of 54 pieces for this puzzle. This shows the puzzle painted with out all the layers in place. Picture with the first layer finished. Picture with the second layer finished. Last picture of the finished project! I hope my mother likes this one! Quote
