heppnerguy Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 I have made several of these wedding crosses this year and I like to put some variation on them when I do, because I do not want to make them all the same. so this last one I decided to change the backer board and I like the results. What I did was to use the washer/pencil trick I posted earlier and extended the backer board past the edges of the cross. The results were satisfying to me for a couple of reasons. I liked the different look it gave but more than that, I thought it made the cross stand out better too. What do you think.......good or bad ? I like honest oppinions because what looks good to me, doesn't always appeal to others Dick heppnerguy Carl Mattes, Fab4, Wilson's Woodworking and 1 other 4 Quote

LarryEA Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 I like it and as you said, it's a variation and a nice one. Yes it's an add yo making the cross stand out. Quote
Scrappile Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 That looks great to me! I really like your modification and think it would work well on other things also. Nice job! Quote
Fish Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 It looks great. I like the way it makes it stand out. Beautiful piece. Quote
MrsN Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 I really like the look of the bigger backer board. Quote
amazingkevin Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 High contrasts definitely plus in the right direction. I'll give it a shot next cross i do! Now the added wood backer just sweetens the deal that much more! I'm now wondering how much further can a scroller go to heighten the beauty being displayed .These ideas bring about the sale or no sale quickly i think at the shows. Everybodys looking for the one piece that catches their eye. You've caught mine! You did really really good here Mr. heppnerguy. You get the ball rolling for us now,I think maybe you started a trend ,hopefully! Quote
bandaideman Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 I like the look better than just the regular backer. I like to do variations on the cross too. I have taken out the faith etc and put in the couples names. Take out the rose and put in a clock that one was requested. I use different bride and groom. I would never have thought of this. may try it first practice with the pencil Quote
Clayton717 Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 Looks great Dick. It does make it stand out a little more. Well done Quote

heppnerguy Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Oh good,, I am glad that others like it too. since I found the idea of using a pencil and a small washer to enhance the backerboard, I have used it several of my pieces.. the question came to me abour asking others if they agree or disagree. One thing I have found out with scrolling is that often a person likes something that I would not even think about scrolling and it ends up being a seller right away. so now, I find that just because I like something, does not mean someone else will too.. thanks for the kind comments Dick heppnerguy Quote
amazingkevin Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 It's almost three years you've been turning out hit after hit here in the village, congratulations on a job well done! Quote
NC Scroller Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 I really like doing the wide boarder. Love the washer trick. A good variation to this is to cut the backer on a bevel. I like to use 3/8" or 1/2" baltic birch that I stian for this. Quote
Scrollingmom Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 Just seeing your cross and I think it looks great. Nice scrolling. Quote
