Tindi Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 I'm making a picket fence to go around the front of my chicken coop, more decorative but to keep animals back from their coop. I was looking for a unique pattern to scroll out, maybe a older style, not just a boring point. Has anyone seen any patterns or design ideas? Thanks Cindi Quote
Birchbark Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 How tall were the pickets going to be?, If they were straight up until the top 11" there are many cool ideas you could go with. What was the width of the pickets going to be? Do you have them already? Russell Quote
grampa Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 Hi Cindi, you may get a few ideas from these ......paul Tindi and woodworker13403A 2 Quote
Tindi Posted November 30, 2014 Author Report Posted November 30, 2014 I bought..... I guess its called joined pine? 2.5" wide by 8' long. So I'm thinking a 4' high fence at most. Thanks for the reply. Quote
Tindi Posted November 30, 2014 Author Report Posted November 30, 2014 From the silhouette pickets I like the bottom middle two. Is there a way to copy it so it would print out a pattern 2.5" wide? Obviously I need help! Thanks Cindi Quote
amazingkevin Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 Whoa that's fast and they will look marvelous for the chickens! Quote
Tindi Posted November 30, 2014 Author Report Posted November 30, 2014 That is amazing thank you so much!! Quote
Tindi Posted November 30, 2014 Author Report Posted November 30, 2014 My printer prints it at 2 1/4" wide, is there a way to size it to 2 1/2" wide? I'm going to use the picket in the middle. Trying not to be a pain in the butt here cause I really appreciate the help! Quote
LarryEA Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 Your printer should have an option for sizing. It is printing at 100%, just increase it until you get the size you want. Tindi 1 Quote
don in brooklin on Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 I don't know how many picket you have to do but I lived in a controlled historic district that required that I put up gothic type (upper right of silhouettes). I had to do 140 pickets so I rough cut with a jig saw and then made a template and finished with a router and a pattern bit. I don't think I would ever have cut them all without the jig. I then ran 1/4 inch round over on all sides. It really finished them off. I don't have a pic of the jig but here is a pic of the fence. wombatie, Phantom Scroller and Scrolling Steve 3 Quote
Birchbark Posted December 1, 2014 Report Posted December 1, 2014 Your picket fence looks great, and love the arch over the gate with the roses. Very nice. This picture of the picket pattern wasn't meant to be a pattern i don't believe. It wasn't straight on the edges, it tapered toward the top, and the point wasn't in the middle. I adjusted those things and made it 2.5" I thought you were looking for something custom, but this will look good as well. Good luck to ya. Russell Quote
Birchbark Posted December 1, 2014 Report Posted December 1, 2014 Justin Case you wanted just the outline to save on ink. As was mentioned earlier, i would make the first one out of quarter inch plywood and get it just the way you want it, then use it as a template to draw the rest. You had probably already thought of that, but just sayin' .. Russell Quote
Tindi Posted December 1, 2014 Author Report Posted December 1, 2014 Thank you everyone for your help I really appreciate it. Don I love your fence with the roses! What I'm making won't be as big its more of a barrier to prevent the "good" animals from touching the electric fence around the front of my chicken coop. I was pleasantly surprised to see your pattern post Russell and I will make a template like you suggest. I have not done this before so I am open to all suggestions! Quote
ChelCass Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 Great patterns guys, thanks for my copies Quote
