We have a bush fire here in Hastings,  and I have to admit its pretty scary.  Its about 2 and half kilometers away.  I have had friend evacuated and my daughter is on her was here with a few things and her ferret.  You may be asking yourselves " Why is she sitting there writing this"  well to be honest it is helping me at the moment and I don't want to be out side looking all the time because that just makes me more anxious.  We have a sever storm coming through now and the wind is going in all directions.  People are just sticking together.

The first photo is from the local supermarket car park.  The second one was taken from my garden about 45 minutes ago.  And the third one was taken from my garden about 15 minutes ago.

OK I'm going now.  I will be OK and I will post again tomorrow.  PROMISE.

Looks like a bomb shelter could have been in order,Our everglades here does this every year but it's 9 miles away. It's tough to breath smoke.I hope much is not around your house to bring danger of loosing it.Grab the scroll saw at least,Probable a smoker threw their cigarette out the window driving.Keep us informed,Keep moving!

Marg,

If it really gets threatening to your home, please don't hesitate too long to evacuate. We had a large grass fire that burning the entire length of our town but was finally able to get it out. Things are not worth anything compared to lives. Don't wait too long, please. waiting to  hear your next report

Hi Everyone.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers I think they worked, along with the amazing firefighters.  I had the car packed with the things that are precious to me, mainly photo albums, passports and a few clothes for the both of us.  At 8.00pm a miracle happened and the very brave volunteer fire fighters got it under control until the wind whipped around and they almost lost it again.  It took 41 fire trucks from local areas, over 350 firefighters and 2 water bombing planes to get it under control.  There was a community meeting last night held by the fire dept and the police, oh and the local council to let us know what had happened and what was going to happen.  It burned all night and even the rain that we got late last night did not put it out and its still burning around the bottom of some trees.  NO homes were lost but 3 or 4 were damaged.  No lives lost.  My daughters friend is a volunteer firefighter, she started as a cadet when she was about 14, she was out fighting the fire from 2.30pm yesterday until 4.30am this morning.  I have lived in Hastings for 36 years and that is the closest bush fire ever and please God I don't want to be that close again, it was really scary.  Family and friends seemed to be on the phone all the time making sure that we were OK and I thank them for it, it kept me sane.  This morning an investigation started to find out if it was deliberately lit, I really hope it wasn't.  Once again thank you all for your prayers and thoughts.

Thanks everyone.   There are some photos on Face Book that I have been looking at and I for one am glad that when the wind changed it went east and not west because if it had it would have crossed the road and it would have just run wild.  We are a very rural town with pockets of bushland and lots and lots of trees.  This is only the start of bush fire season, only 2 and a half months to go.  I always worry because we have bushland behind the houses across the road and if that ever went up I would be out of here sooooooo fast.

One thing I never complain about is the cold Roy probably because we never really get below 10 Celsius.     Thank the family for me Roy really appreciate their concern.

Glad to read it is over before I knew it had started and that you and others are safe.  Hopefully it took away enough fuel that if you get another one it will be easier to control.  Candle or no candle, it takes a tough Aussie (especially if a transplant) to live in the bush.
