CONGRATULATINS! \

WE want to see those projects too!

I have been sort of looking for a small used one, nothing so far that I could not leave there for the $$$.

When I do really get ready for one I will actually look instead of the "sort of" thing.

Ihope you enjoy your new wood lathe.

My husband laughs at me because I enjoy running our WWII era metal working engine lathe. But the wood lathe? No thanks! He's determined that I will learn to like the wood lathe though. Silly man.

Finally got the time to unbox it and set it up. Off today to get some 2x2s to practice on. The centers are dead on and everything looks good so here's hoping things go well. Won't be able to stay at it long because it's cold in the garage and I refuse to wear long sleeves while working on a lathe. No watch or wedding ring either.

Craig it's fun to make a few tools yourself like a parting tool from a ground down large saw blade off a bar cutter and make your own handle and ferrule from some copper pipe and few chisels from ground down old files and make the handles. Limited to you imagination and a grind stone. Roly have fun.

PS Chisels you get what you pay for cheap ones you will forever be sharpening.

I bought some cheaper ones to get started, but from my carving tools I know how to sharpen them. I used to work in a scrap yard and a guy gave be some 440c

stainless bars that must have been from a large planer, they look like the blades. I now have a use for them.

Be careful,, this an addictive hobby. I bought my lathe last Summer and spent yet more money on things like turning tools and the Wolverine set up stuff so now I have some nice sharp tools. Started out making small items lie pens and now working up to larger things like bowls. Also you will need other things for safety and yet more things like sanding supplies and such. Later on you might want to try casting your own blanks. I have been toying with that idea ever since I made blanks out of polymer clay and will turn thos in the next few days to see how they will work out. Good luck with the new toy... Fay

I have been looking for a oscillating spindle sander an inexpensive one used.  I found one older craftsman over the weekend for $50 and then another with more HP today for $40 between the two I will have one complete nice one. then sell the other on craigslist and recover some of my money back.

While looking at the one this weekend the guy had a delta mini and a bed extension still in the box. If I had the $500 it would of came home with me.

Need to fix the auto first before buying any thing more. I have always been intrigued watching turners. I have experience making parts on a metal lathe but wood never once tried it. :)
