Hello again!  Here's the progress on my hot air balloon puzzle I made today.  I plan on painting it either tonight or tomorrow afternoon (depending on how tired I get this evening.)

I took this photo before I sawed the edges and sanded them, though.

Nice looking puzzle.

I am also anxious to see the completed project.

Have you considered glueing some little finger pulls on it to help

remove and insert the puzzle pieces? Just curious; it's your project and

you have all the artistic license!

I have, I think I'm going to hammer in some push pins.  It's really hard to get out of the tray otherwise.

The hot air balloon is done!  Here are my progress pictures!

First, The tray by itself cut down to size and painted.

Second, the pieces by themselves, painted front and back.  The names of the colors are on the backs of the balloon pieces.

Third and last is the puzzle complete and put together, if a bit damp.

I tried a push pin on a scrap piece of the same birch I used for the puzzle, and the pin part is too long.  Does anyone know a way I can remove the pin from to handle, or somewhere I can just buy the handles?

Nice work!

You can probably just sand or grind down the pin. Just keep the point sharp enough to

push it into your puzzle.

Do you think an electric sander would work for that?

Cute idea. I just use sidecuts to make brads shorter when they're to long. Cut at an angle, they're sharp enough to penetrate the wood.

A+ Gif usage there!  Love it!  I have a sander I can try to use to get it down, I suppose.  I had a hard time even getting the pin to go into my scrap wood earlier.

I found some wooden mushroom buttons online too, so that's an option also.

Hi,

Yes, I think an electric sander would work with coarse sand-paper. A grinding wheel (like a bench grinder) would probably be easier and faster.

The side-cutters would work well,

You could also just cut short pieces of dowel rod or scrap wood to glue onto the puzzle pieces.
