On a recent road trip we stopped at a saw mill ( 1 guy with a portable mill) in New Mexico.  He had a ton of ceder and let me pick what I wanted.  We had a great visit with him. He also had a pet Long Horn steer and let my wife give it a ice cream bar, paper and all.  It was a real laugh to see how much it enjoyed the ice cream.  Here are some cuttings I have done in the ceder.  The fox is by Old crow scroll works or Don, the horses is by Gayle  and the wolf is by unknown, don't have a name on it.

Great cutting and I do love the natural edge stuff.  I just tried a piece of Basswood I have.  Unfortunantely it fell apart in some detailed areas.   You can't win them all.

Great pictures you have.
