jblock9907 Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 I was in HD the other day, went to the checkout. Presented my Military ID for my discount. The cashier says,"sorry, but management does not want the front registers to ring up the discount." OK. I looked around and told her that all the registers were up front. She said "I know." I asked if I still got my discount and she said yes, but not at the front registers. I thanked her, went home took a couple of aspirins and had a nap. oneleggimp 1 Quote

Scrolling Steve Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 HD does have some weird policies , You have to ask for 5% discount when using their HD credit card.....If you ask you get it ...If you do not ask ,you do not!......Lowes home store on the other hand has an automatic discount when using their card, you don't have to ask!?!....... oneleggimp 1 Quote
Kepy Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Methinks you got a clerk who didn't know how to do the discount. oneleggimp 1 Quote
ike Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 At HD I get my VA discount some ti;mes and others I don'e. Some said that I was an older vet not wounded in action. I guess It was the rog War ( The one that was unpopular wiar) Quote
Bpardue Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 That is why i don't shop at Home Depot and shop at Lowes Quote
jerry1939 Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 At Lowes, I check out at Customer Service. That's where the honchos are. They carry a bar code in their wallets that they scan to tell the registers to take off 10%. I THINK the reason they don't let every cashier automatically give the discount is that probably they would start giving it to friends & family. We don't have a Home Depot nearby. Menards discontinued Military discounts. jerry Quote
edward Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Lowes is a better place to shop, I have a HD close, but rather go the extra five miles. edward Quote
LarryEA Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 I don't care much for HD but I do shop there sometimes. oneleggimp 1 Quote
bandaideman Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 I go to both but tend to use Lowes most. I forget about the discount most regular visits small items but I did get 10% discount when I bought 4 doors with installatation just showed by disabled Vet card and HD discounted without any hesitation. Lowes would have done the same but the doors they had were not as good and were not what I , well actually my wife was looking for. Now my income is more fixed so will remember the discounts more. Dan Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 I agree with most responses...go to Lowes. Quote
ike Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 If you use HD card you have to ask for the %5 discount or you don't get it. I went into HD the other day thought I would get a good piece of ply. and all they had was garbage. I am about ready to start going to Lows even though HD is closer. oneleggimp 1 Quote
WigWag Workshop Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 I am the opposite, I wouldn't be caught dead in a Lowes, but then again they don't carry to much DeWalt stuff anyway. Quote
WayneMahler Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 For those of us the served, this is a small perk. My local HD honor my drivers license as proff for being a veteran. Pa designates a veteran with a small flag and the word veteran under it. I don't understand the cahiers reaction. Maybe the big box stores are cutting back? Sorry you had to go through this. ChelCass Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Really!!!! I was just in Home Depot and no problem getting my military discount. I would have asked for the manager. Next time (if there is one) call her bluff! See where it goes. oneleggimp 1 Quote
crupiea Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 I was not aware of the discount and when i went to pay she saw my retired military id card in my wallet and said she could give me a discount. pretty cool i thought. Quote
