Southern Scroller Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 Happen to have one in the garage - STORED -not used. Saving it for the other hip. oneleggimp 1 Quote
jerry1939 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 We live in a condo with 2 bathrooms. Currently, 1/2 of the 2 car garage is my "play area." The garage has neither heat or AC (In Iowa.) Whenever I tease my sweet wife of 53 years that I would like to scroll in the condo, where the temperature is controlled, she tells me that I could have the smaller bathroom. She is a sweet darling. I could sit on the stool with my pants off and scroll away. No wonder I love her. jerry oneleggimp and danny 2 Quote
ChelCass Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 LOL We just put mine in the basement. Had to have it when I had my hip replaced last Dec. Gee maybe instead of installing a bathroom upstairs I could just use my pottychair.........................................Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm! bobscroll 1 Quote
oneleggimp Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 (edited) Here's my dining room shop.. I am a full-time wheelchair user and thus can't have a basement shop (and we have no garage) so the dining room has become my workshop. My wife of 35 years is VERY understanding. I have only three stationary power tools: A Harbor Freight Variable Speed Mini-Lathe, used to turn pens, bottle stoppers, game calls and the like, A Rikon 8" Slow Speed Bench grinder with a Wolverine Grinding Jig to sharpen lathe tools, and a Ryobi SC165VS Scroll Saw, which I got through a generous gift from friends. The first picture is of the lathe and grinder with all the stuff that goes with it The stacked drawer cabinets hold pen kits, drill bits, pen bushings, and pen blanks. Lathe items are on the carousel to the right (centers, pen mandrels, drill chuck, chuck key, knock out bar, pen tube insertion tool knife, vernier calipers, depth gauge, ID Calipers, etc) The scroll saw lives on top of my servce dog Ruby's crate. It's just the right height for me to easily see the pattern or cut line as I'm using the scroll saw while sitting in my wheelchair . A LED light provides good illumination for the scroll saw and I've "re-purposed" a very old "high intensity desk light" for the lathe. I use a 38 year-old Craftsman wet or dry 8 gallon shop vacuum for dust collection. Still sucks big time - not like the newer Craftsman tools. No "comfort Station" in my dining room shop area however. oneleggimp Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 (edited) You need a small drill press of some sort. No room for a Driil Press. I drill pen blanks, bottle stopper blanks etc with the Lathe. As for other things - like starter holes for scroll sawing fretwork - I use a handheld 3/8" Electric Power Drill Edited August 30, 2015 by oneleggimp Quote
