GrampaJim Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 As I posted after Thanksgiving, I have retired. This morning in SE Wisconsin where we are the temp is -4 degrees with a wind chill of -17 degrees. Glad I don't have to go out in this! Think I will stroll down to my basement shop and make some saw dust. Life is Good, Jim ChelCass, bobscroll, tomsteve and 2 others 5 Quote

danny Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 Jim I felt the same as you when I decided to get out of the Work Force back in 2007. Life was different for some time with a different way to start my days. Got used to it real fast. Secret is to keep your Body and Mind OCCUPIED. Remember then and still do now with waking and the Weather being bad like this morning was 23. And I didn't have to get out in it. Yes I AM HAPPILY RETIRED............................Danny :+} Phantom Scroller and Malcolm161 2 Quote

bandaideman Posted January 12, 2016 Report Posted January 12, 2016 this is my first winter retired and we have only had a little snow in Indiana but it is nice to think I did not have to get up, clean off the truck and clear the driveway then drive to work on ice. My attitude has changed to I have not seen snow in July so don't rush clear out. Quote

Chiloquinruss Posted January 12, 2016 Report Posted January 12, 2016 The post about being occupied is the secret. Too many of my friends simply retired and in short order they were gone. I'm in my 10th year of retirement and can't possibly get all my projects done. I do have a lot of them started though! My advice for what it is worth is to maintain some sort of schedule, don't say I'll get to it tomorrow, just put on to today's schedule and at least go start it. In regards to the message that every day is Saturday, my issue is that I need to go back to work because then at least I got weekend's off! Welcome to the 'golden years'. Russ bobscroll 1 Quote

The old saying is don't retire FROM something, retire TO something. Everyone here know what that TO something is. bobscroll 1 Quote
bandaideman Posted January 12, 2016 Report Posted January 12, 2016 Russ think your right. I have tried to stay busy and out of my wifes way which takes all day. Winter is new to me but can get in the shop and I have other things to do. My dad retired 32 years ago and will reach 94 in March. he is always got something. He lives alone drives, makes his food shops keeps the house maintained and clean. He is not as fast as he used to be but he is doing what he wants. Quote
Jim Finn Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 Jim, I feel your pain....I spent my first 38 years in Racine. Escaped in 79 Quote
ChelCass Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 Retired is the best. I sold my home moved to the U.P. and enjoy life to the fullest. I have many hobbies that keep me busy or I can just go out on the deck and watch the ducks float by. As JIm said the best thing about retirement is not having to go out in nasty weather...........................Love it!! bobscroll 1 Quote
