jerry1939 Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 BirchBark was kind enough to call this to my attention. Other sites help themselves to some of the patterns posted in "Pattern Announcement". Log off this site. Go to Google & type: "Rose Trivet2" DO NOT PUT A SPACE BETWEEN "TRIVET" and "2" like it prompts you to do. Look at the first entry. Next, type: "For Chelcass" Obviously people are not likely do searches using these words, but I think it stinks that patterns intended for only the great people on this site to use and share are being lifted by other sites. Now I will ask my Sweet Wife to help me get down off of my soapbox. At my age, I could fall & get hurt. jerry WolfyPete and Scrolling Steve 2 Quote

ChelCass Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 Sigh, I have seen this on many occasions and some people even go so far as to claim them as their own. I have called a couple out on this and they swear they made the pattern..................................it's anever ending battle. Quote
Dave Monk Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 It totally sucks but you would have to copyright them if you want to protect them. That probably wouldn't solve it either. Some people are just thieves. dave GrampaJim 1 Quote
orangeman Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) I posted some puzzles I designed and built on this forum and another one. Originals. Within days Google had picked up on them and they appeared on Google images. That's OK with me - comes with the territory of posting. At least when someone clicks they will see my website. Never have had an order for anything yet from my postings on forums. If they copy and replicate I consider it a compliment. After all I would not post anything if I did not want it copied. I had considered selling patterns but it just isn't worth the hassle for the small price folks are willing to pay. Maybe $5 if you are lucky. If someone wants one of my patterns, they need to go to my website and buy the puzzle. Can't prevent anyone from copying then I have had folks come by my booth at craft shows and buy a puzzle just to get the pattern. I don't have a problem with that. Lucky2 Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 Some people just don't have any scruples, it's getting to be a sad world. How could they feel good getting praise for making a pattern, that they didn't make? If it was a pattern that I made and saw that someone else was laying claim to it, I'd do everything I could to embarrass the ass off of the thief. All you have to do, is to prove that you posted it first. Len Quote
jerry1939 Posted February 8, 2016 Author Report Posted February 8, 2016 A lot of us have heard the saying: "Pick your battles" Obviously this is one that can't be won, so I for one, will stay away from the fight. jerry Quote
Birchbark Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 Ha, yeah jerry, i searched, using Bing, and when i put in For Chelcass, two of mine came up. funny. Then i searched Jerry1939 pattern. Many came up. Russell Quote
jerry1939 Posted February 9, 2016 Author Report Posted February 9, 2016 Last night I posted a new pattern to "New Patterns" & to the "Pattern Library." Went immediately to: https://www.bing.com/ Typed "jerry1939" and the pattern was there, along with pictures of things I made & posted on Steve Good's Scrollsaw Workshop. Bing has set up a direct link to these sites. Obviously it wouldn't occur to anyone to search jerry1939. I tried another one that people wouldn't be likely to enter: "chachi111769". Same story. Let it go jerry. It is what it is. jerry Quote
Lucky2 Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 Yes Jerry, it may be that it "is as it is", but it still sucks. Len Quote
spirithorse Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 That is one of the reasons that I requested that Travis make it necessary to log in as a member before you can view those patterns but, that is his decision to make and he prefers to leave it as is. I notified a lot of designers that their patterns were being sold as vinyl decals on e-bay so that a group of us could all make complaints to e-bay for copyright violation and get the theif banned. Unfortunately, I don't think many people filed the necessary complaints and e-bay made it harder on me, as the designer, than they made it on the thief and he is still selling the patterns as his own. Now that I've vented a little I'd better reflect more on all the blessings I have in my life to be thankful for and let this subject rest. God Bless! Spirithorse Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 Well controversial indeed but I don't care who has my patterns because I don't put the ones on that I don't want people to have only the ones I want to share with the world. And if it's patterns your selling then sue the arse off um. Oops did I SAY THAT OUT LOUD. Roly Quote
