Kepy Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 I finally conceded that I was going to have to get a cell phone. Seeing all the great ads for Consumer Cellular, it looked like a good deal as I just need it for emergencies. Visited the store and the clerk knew only a little more than me. Picked up a brochure and tried calling this company that advertises great customer service. After calling for 3 days and getting a message each time that they were busy and if I left a number they would get back to me at their convenience, I decided to send an email. All I got was an automated receipt for my message. That was several days ago so their customer service leaves a lot to be desired if it even exists. I may just have to get a throwaway Tracfone. Scrolling Steve Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 I think you can mark one company off your list Kepy ! Quote
ChelCass Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 Kepy, I have Tracfone an love it. Like you I only need it for emergencies and what not. I just had them put me on auto refill and save a couple more buck. Never haven any problems with my phone or with the company. Have always been able to get ahold of a live person and they could always help me. Cheap insurance. I see cricket advertised all the time but don't know anything about them. Quote

Trac phones are great I have one and you can't tell the difference between a trac phone and any other phone out there and trac phones `work in a lot of place others don't so Look around your area for one you like different stores have different choices... Cricket stinks in a major way they only work in certain areas (I had them first ) even though the map says it should it don't and the prices is all kind of crazy for what you get... Quote
EarltheScroller Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 (edited) I don't see Tracfone as throw away, at all. I've had one for years and use it daily--it has never failed me. I buy a year at a time for $99. with double minutes. I have never run out. While I use it often it is always short phone calls 'cause I'm not a big talker. That's less than $10 a month...can't be beat. Edited March 27, 2016 by EarltheScroller Quote
Kepy Posted March 27, 2016 Author Report Posted March 27, 2016 I'm glad to hear the responses as I just got home with a new Tracfone. The clerk at Walmart set it up for me and was really appreciated. I just bought a 60 min. card but it is supposed to double to 120 so should get me by for the little I will use it. ChelCass 1 Quote
GrampaJim Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 I have used a Trackfone for years. $20 every 90 days for 60 minutes. I have never used more that that and the extra rolls over. I have a balance of about 600 minutes as of today. Jim ChelCass 1 Quote
jerry1939 Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 My Sweet Wife & I have each had one for years. Add minutes every year to each. My current balance is $310 jerry Quote

ChelCass Posted March 28, 2016 Report Posted March 28, 2016 Grampa Jim if you are comfortable you can have tracfone autofill and it only cost you 17.00. Worth a thought. Quote
Jim McDonald Posted March 28, 2016 Report Posted March 28, 2016 In a past employment, I sold all the major carriers and for someone just wanting emergencies and to talk to the grandkids, TracFone is a good choice. They buy time from most of the majors, meaning you should have service anywhere that is not too rural. Quote
