Hi All,

Got back on the lathe and turned a shell for a click pencil kit.

The wood is Yew and is a lovely wood to turn.

On youtube I follow a guy (RJBwoodturner) who makes lots of pens and I liked his idea of leaving out the metal band that you see in the middle of the pen. So instead of having two blanks you leave the wood in one piece.

This was for my daughter and she didn't want the pocket clip. I do like the look without the middle band and clip on this piece.

Regards

Paul

Thank you all for the great comments.

Turning pens is so enjoyable that I had to do a Pen kit that I have had for sometime.

It is a nice chunky style of pen. It is called a vertex Click pen.

What I like about this small piece of Yew is that the deeper you turn the more features come up. It really is beautiful wood.

Question for you pen turners or any turner. What is your favourite wood to turn?

Great looking pen and pencil. I don't have a favorite wood for pens, I like to use wood with neat looking grain. I turn a lot of acrylic pens.

Hi Clayton.

Thanks for the comments

I like the Acrylic too. I must get some wood/acrylic mix. That stuff looks beautiful when turned.

Paul, that's a beautiful pen, you did a fantastic job turning this one out. Personally, I don't have a favorite wood to turn, I like all types. Presently, I have about 2 hundred blanks on hand, and about half that many kits. Lately, I've just lost interest in turning them, as they don't sell. People like to compare hand turned pens, to what they can get at a dollar store. I can't compete with the dollar store prices, my kits cost more than their pens do.

Hi Len,

Thanks for your comments.

It amazes me that some people could actually make that comparison. I think I would lose interest too.

This is Walnut, I replaced the stock clip.

Most of my pens are gifts for people now and Len your spot on with the pens being cheap now. When they first came out you could name your price I've even sold them at £70 a flash one & £30 for sierras lowest price, now your lucky to get £12 or less for a slimline and same for a sierra. Roly
