Montserrat Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Today, my mother passed away after a short and difficult illness. While she was in hospital and I was waiting for news from Germany, I concentrated on work and this project in order keep my mind occupied. I am happy with it. The cutting went well, despite tearing up occasionally, when thinking about my mom. I ran into difficulty when assembling after I put the shims under. Pieces kept shifting and I ended up with larger gap than anticipated, because the angles somehow changed. I decided not to carve the mane hair or the muzzle pieces. I thought the wood spoke for itself. I put BLO on it. Quote

heppnerguy Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 I too am very sorry for the loss of your mother. It is hard when this time comes. The pain does eventually ease up but the memories you shared stay alive as long as you do. Be thankful for always having them to hold on to. I like your lion. I have been looking at that pattern and I just might have to purchase it, now that I see yours.. Dick heppnerguy Quote
meflick Posted August 7, 2016 Report Posted August 7, 2016 Hi Monti. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your mother. I lost my mom back in April after a long and difficult progression with Alzheimer's disease. I understand your pain and think you did excellent work under the circumstances. It was actually the loss of my mom which lead me to trying to learn intarsia. I was looking to find a place where I could loose myself into the process. I know it has helped me greatly in dealing with the loss. I hope it brings you a similar peace. The lion is beautiful. I think you did an excellent job and agree it looks wonderful as is. As a new i.e. To intarsia I thank you for taking to,e to share your photos as I enjoy seeing how others approach and complete their projects. Finally, I see you are somewhere in Tn. I am too, I a, in East TN around the Knoxville area. Not sure if you are anywhere close or across this long ours. If close, perhaps we can meet up sometime down the road. Prayers for you and your family as you deal with this loss in your life. Quote
