sullyscroller Posted December 2, 2016 Report Posted December 2, 2016 (edited) Ya'll please pray for the people and the town of Gatlinburg, the fires there have been devastating and many lives have been lost. Many of the missing may never be found due to the intensity of the fire. At last count there are at least 7 dead and over 700 structures destroyed. The town will be rebuilt but it will never be the same. I have been there many times as i'm only an hour away but i'll never be able to stay at the motels or private cabins I did as they are gone. It's enough to make me cry. Worst part is it was arson that started the firestorm fanned by 75 mph winds. Please keep those affected by this disaster in your prayers and ask the Lord to give peace to the families that lost loved ones and resolve to those that must put their lives back together.Thank you and may God bless. sully Update : death toll as of 6:30 this morning has climbed to 11 Edited December 2, 2016 by sullyscroller Scrolling Steve, Phantom Scroller, bobscroll and 3 others 6 Quote
ChelCass Posted December 2, 2016 Report Posted December 2, 2016 So sad, I have been to Gatlinburg a few time and loved it. How can people be destructive? It boggles the mind. Prayer for all who are effected by this tragedy . Quote

meflick Posted December 2, 2016 Report Posted December 2, 2016 Like SullyScroller - I am a little less than an hour away from Gatlinburg only to the south and west slightly. Regularly this year we had been hiking in the mountains in the area hard hit by the flames. One of the places we stayed at in the past year or so for my birthday has been completely wiped out and burned to the grown. We had been battling lots of wildfires in the area for several weeks and have been in an extreme drought condition in the area for months. Last significant measurable rain had been back on July 5th. Finally got some rain in the area on Wed. but unfortunately, while we got over 4 inches at my house, the mountains/Gatlinburg got only just over an inch to an inch and a half I believe. Not nearly enough and there are still wildfires burning. Thanks to all for your prayers for those affected. Having had my childhood home burn and loosing everything my first semester in college i have a small inkling what some of these folks are going to be going through over the next few weeks and months. The loss of lives that are known and those still missing family is heartbreaking to watch. On a side note - for those of you who know Judy Gale Roberts, know of her and her Intarsia work, and/or have been to her studio in the area to take classes - last I had heard they were okay - they are about 20 miles away from the fires that devastated the area on Monday night/Tues. Clayton717 Posted December 3, 2016 Report Posted December 3, 2016 I was just there and stayed in a cabin. We left the friday after thanksgiving, before the fires really flared up. This is a terrible tragedy. I hope they punish whoever started the fires to the full extent. Quote
Lucky2 Posted December 3, 2016 Report Posted December 3, 2016 Sully, prayers are on their way. Len Quote
sullyscroller Posted December 3, 2016 Author Report Posted December 3, 2016 Clayton the fire was set up at Chimney Top and it raced down the mountain pushed by 75 mph winds. The area behind the convention ctr. took the worst, roaring fork rd, Cherokee Orchard rd. Baskins Creek Rd. ect. It went back to and crossed hwy 321 and almost made it to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. I can't post the link but if you look up Chimney Top Fires 2 on facebook it has maps showing the area destroyed buy the fire. God Bless sully Clayton717 1 Quote
