wood selection

I have been to asked to make a Man Cave sign for someone in Florida where it will be in humidity most of the time. What wood or finish would you suggest to use. I usually use oak, walnut or cherry but ondered it Cedar of some other wood could be a better choice. Thanks

Cedar would look lovely or walnut or cherry or oak man you have some choices.  Roly

As long as it's not outdoors in the elements almost any finish will work.

I think as long as it's inside the wood or finish will not make a difference. It's really the sun that does more damage than anything, then it getting wet I think would be next. For a clear finish spar varnish will hold up about as good as any thing but will have to be refinished every year or two. Two at the most.

Cypress is a native wood and like Hawkeye said spar varnish is good outdoors.

thanks for the input. I will check with the customer again but she mentioned it will be out in open sided shop but I am not certain. Spar sounds good use sometimes.

Dan, for indoors or outdoors use, you could get away with using most any type of wood that is acclimitized to Florida. For a finish, use what you normally use. You must have a favorite indoors finish, use it, and use whatever else you'd normally use for outdoor work.

Aquatrol  does nice to bring out the best in wood and is uv resistant,Better paint stores carry it.

Thanks for the input. Keven I had not heard of Aquatrol before I will look into it.

just a reminder that no matter what finish is used, if its outdoors, there will be maintenance of the finish in the future.
